How do I wash light up clothes?

Last year after Halloween I got DS some light up shirts. Now I want to wash them so he can wear them but I can't see how to take out the lights. THey are covered in plastic in the front but it looks like it is just the tshirt in the back.

We had light up blankets and they were completely washable. Granted they lasted only about 6 months (the lights stopped eventually) but they were machine washable.

DD has a hand-me-down shirt from her cousin that lights up and somehow it makes it through a regular wash and dry. Not sure how long the cousin wore it before giving it to us, but I've washed it at least 10 times now.

DS has a light up halloween shirt that my mom got him last year. Its working great and I have washed tons. Plus he had a light up Cars shirt. We had a problem with it shrinking up but no problem with the lights in the washer.
