I really want to get ds the Minnen bed from Ikea: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S39827962 . If you have this bed, how is it holding up with your little one? It doesn't seem to look too sturdy, but obviously at that price I know I shouldn't expect too much. Also do you have to buy a special Ikea mattress or can you use a crib mattress when its on its smallest setting? Does a regular twin mattress work when its on its biggest setting? What about bedding? Do you have to buy special sheets from Ikea as well? TIA.

We have it and love it. On the biggest setting you can use a regular top twin mattress (no boxspring). You can use regular sheets but not a bed skirt.

We did not use it on the smaller settings but IKEA makes a three part mattress for use at all three stages.

Thanks Kayte. We are debating whether getting this bed or a bunk bed for ds. We do plan on having more kids but I think the bunk bed can wait since we really don't want to spend that much on a bed for him. Do you know if a crib mattress would fit in the smallest setting?

Nope. Because the crib mattress is too narrow.

we havent set it up yet but we got that bed.

its too wide for a crib mattress and if you plan on using it on the middle setting you need the ikea mattress in 3 sections. I tested it out in the store and didnt see any issues w/it being too flimsey.

We did buy the ikea sheets and got a reg comforter knowing it will hang over a bit.
