Thanks!

I would avoid nail clippers and use a nail file. I to this day still only file my DS's nails every few days.

I used a nail file when mine were little. I didnt start clipping till they were a few months old
Then I just used the baby clippers

Stoddard's (if there's one in your area) sells tiny baby manicure scissors. They are about $15, and they're worth every penny. I'd tried every clipper and nail file I could get, and they were all completely useless for soft pliable newborn nails. Then a nurse suggested those, and I am still using them, nearly 2 years later!

I use cuticle clippers on both my boys and they work great. Here's a picture-

Thanks for the suggestion! I called Stoddard's (http://www.stoddards.com/) and ordered a pair ($18 + free shipping). The guy on the phone said the scissors are imported from Italy and can be sharpened in future (although they rarely need to be). Stoddard's has been selling them for 30 years and gets frequent referrals from nurses :)

Nail file.

Skip the mittens if you are considering them. Babies like their hands. :) A scratch just isn't a big deal; wash it and leave it be.

Rebecca,

Free shipping, cool! (You're right, I remember now they were actually $18, but rang at 20% off for some reason; that's why I paid $15 for mine.)

They did tell me they get referrals from nurses as well. I don't know how nurses got in on that little secret. ;)

We used the ones that came in our Parents brand medical kit.

Unfortunately this one isn't available, but I loved the bubble handle on the clippers since it was easy to hold, but I am sure that you can find one similar in another set.

Yup same here, we use the smaller baby-sized clippers...ours are by Safety 1st...nothing fancy but they work for us.
