We are potentially hiring a new part-time nanny (our 1st ever). She has a state fingerprint clearance card. What does this mean? If its recent, does this serve as a background check? Is it legit as long as it has her name on it?

TIA!

I'm not sure what this is. It sounds like something your state might do. I know in NY it would probably just mean your fingerprints are on file, and you'd have to run a background check to see if anything comes up. Could you call your local police dept and ask them? Or maybe your state's Department of Social Services (or whomever licenses child care providers in your state) would have more info? I haven't hired a nanny, but I work in HR so I'm familiar with background checks-I definitely recommend them.

Never heard of it. Call your local police department and ask them of they know what it is.

I googled it out of curiousity and it is a state thing. It appears to be similar to the military's security clearance program State FAQ (http://www.azdps.gov/services/Fingerprint/)

Ahh, thank you. I assumed all states had something like this.

Infomama- thanks for the link to my state's rules. So helpful!!

To work with children in a public setting in AZ everyone must have a current fingerprint clearance card. You just can't get hired without one. I have mine. They are a total PITA to get.
