Looking for a good ipod dock for the living room. We have no room for our big speakers, so this would be our main way of playing music. I know Bose is good, but I've read it's not worth 2-3 times as much as some other brands. This is what I'm considering: Altec Lansing T612

We have the Bose Ipod dock and really like it (though I really can't compare it to the one posted--my insane technophile DH did a ton of research and bought the Bose for "us"). The sound quality is great, we've had it for about 4 years and it still sounds like new. It also looks pretty cool (we have it on the mantle in our family room).

:ROTFLMAO: Bose really is supposed to be the best. There are some people that are really into the specs on these things. I just can't do that much research on electronics, it hurts my brain.

I LOVE mine! it's a little round speaker, pretty small, and has fabulous sound quality IMO. it's easy to move from room to room if need be; my sister used to travel with hers. My parents got it for me a couple years ago, so mine is an earlier generation of this:

my parents got one for me and my two sisters. last year we got one for my dad--he loves it too!

Sorry i haven't heard of the one you linked to. good luck!

I have the old version of that one which doesn't take batteries and it rocks! I've taken it to parties where I could plug it in and everyone is amazed at the sound quality. You can really crank it up. I'm thinking of getting the newer version with batteries for the beach when we go home to Hawaii for holidays. I have the Bose Lifestyle systems throughout the house and the sound quality of the "donut" is just as good.

I have a regular bose wave radio and though it is good it is not worth the price. Ours was a gift.

We have an Altec Lansing InMotion iM7 and love it. I think the sound is great, and it gets as good of reviews as Bose for a LOT less. We hardly ever use our large stereo system anymore. I paid $155 for it on Amazon 2 years ago. Here's a link, although some 3rd party seller has it for $499 right now. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009VKJH4/ref=ox_ya_os_product

The one you're looking at gets great reviews, and I love that you can mount it on the wall. I can't imagine spending the money for Bose either!!!

Glad that your happy with your Altec. I wonder if it's more expensive now b/c it's a 2 year old model and harder to find now. I didn't see that you could mount the one I'm looking at to the wall. I'll be very excited to be able to play music again in the house. The kids love it.

I wanted truly portable speakers and was not willing to pay much more than $100 for them. I picked up Altec Lancing iM600 (http://www.alteclansing.com/index.php?file=north_product_detail&iproduct_id=inmotion_im600) from MidnightBox, a day sale site, for $69 shipped.

It gets great reviews, including at Macworld (http://www.macworld.com/article/57316/2007/04/im600.html) and CNET (http://reviews.cnet.com/mp3-player-accessories/altec-lansing-inmotion-im600/4505-6519_7-32402791.html). I've only had it for a little while but I do like how it looks and sounds, especially for the price. And it has radio for when you don't want to listen to your iPod. DH complained that it does not have enough bass but he likes his music and is really picky about sound.

ITA. We have the iM7 (bought 3 yrs ago... made the trip with us to the hospital when DD was born to provide my mood music). It works great; if I needed another I would go with Altec Lansing and not spend the money for a Bose.

Thanks, guys! I ended up ordering the one I posted from Altec Lansing. Good to hear they're a good brand. Now, I need to find a hookup for my car (There isn't one built in).

ETA: Update, I love it! It has great sound, very powerful and looks nice too. We'll put it on the built in bookshelf in the living room (once DH drills a hole for the cord). It's more of a stationary unit. I'm considering getting the small circle one mentioned for the basement.
