Saw this on TV and looked like so much fun - I'd love to make one for DD's birthday. https://www.bigtopcupcake.com/?MID=564291

I see that Wilton also makes a pan for this http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000UPRAXA/ref=asc_df_B000UPRAXA943923?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=googlecom09c9-20&linkCode=asn&creative=380341&creativeASIN=B000UPRAXA

Just wondering if any of you have experience with these and if they really are as simple as they seem.

I have the Wilton one, not easy at all. I also live at 7,000 feet so baking is a challenge! Google the Wilton one, and there are suggestions, BDTD tips.

DS1 saw the same ad and said we needed to get it. I told him, "You're not the one who bakes!"

I've heard that the Wilton one doesn't bake evenly since the "bottom" side is so much deeper than the "top". Maybe you could just bake each side separately?

They are really cute. :)

The BigTop Cupcake comes with two separate molds. They are silicone. I've never baked in silicone - has anyoe here?

no experience, but it looks like it would be hard to frost the bottom layer the way it's angled. sure looks fun though.

I have the Wilton one. I think it bakes pretty evenly. It is good to use frosting to cover up any mistakes and patch the top and bottom together.

I've read mixed reviews about baking in silicone.

Thanks for the info. I looked up some reviews on baking in silicone and most were negative.

If I decide to get this, I think I will go with the Wilton pan. I read one review where the reviewer said that she put the bottom in first, then about 15 minutes later filled the top and finished baking. I figure I will be making this at least a day ahead, so I could bake the bottom, then bake the top separately just to be sure.

My friend did the Wilton one and had no problems. She had to do it 3 weeks in a row as sickness kept postponing the party, too.
