He did a great job during the exam and she feels confident that she got a good look at everything. Things look healthy. :) Glad i went for peace of mind.

I called our eye Dr. and we are headed over there in just a bit. I'll keep you posted.

Someone posted a while back about I think "white eye" in pictures and I had never heard of it before. Looked over our pics that day and all was well. A few weeks later there was one of ds2 that caught my eye. I wrote it off as a fluke but the newest batch I swear there is something abnormal there. Do I just make an appointment with the eye Dr. or should we go to the ped first? I figured straight to our eye Dr. just to cut out the middle man since she has more diagnostic tools. Insurance isn't an issue- it's all covered. Thoughts?

Are you thinking of leukocoria?

Your pedi. will refer you to an opthalmologist anyway, so why not just go straight to him/her?

My thought too. Calling our eye Dr. this morning.

It was me with the original post (or at least recent post). When we noticed DDs white eye it was just before her already scheduled 2yr check up so we waited for that appointment to mention it. The ped did the basic "light in the eye test" and wrote a referral to a pediatric opthamologist. The ped didn't "think" it was anything because both eyes reflected red with his light test, but thought a specialist should follow up. My understanding is that there are a number of different things that can cause the white reflection and a specialist is best able to evaluate them all.

Good luck. It's probably just the angle of the reflection like what we had, but always better to have it checked out if for no other reason than piece of mind.

Eye doctor if you can skip the Pediatrician. I would just make sure the eye doc can forward the records to your ped office so they can also have it on file.
I had the unfortunate experience of noticing this in a pic I took of my bff's DD. Stupid me called and told her immediately without thinking that it was FRIDAY and she had to worry all weekend till she could get to the doctor. (She had to go through her ped first).
Thankfully, it turned out to be nothing, but my friend was grateful to learn about the possibility and even her ped after looking at the photo told her it was good she had it checked out anyway.
I hope it turns out to be nothing!

They eyes are a very complicated speciality, and any ped without that specialty should be referring patients to an opthamologist (pediatric opthamologist if at all possible).

Wishing you the best of luck, keep us informed.

Just FYI (because I had meant to post this in the original white eye thread) sometimes digital processing of red-eye makes white eye. My camera corrects red eye and sometimes the photos appear with white eye rather than the normal black pupils. I've actually seen it do this. It pops up the photo, puts a box around the eyes (clearly red eye) then replaces the red reflection with white occasionally. I just wanted to mention it because problems with digital editing shouldn't be panicking parents.

Exactly. It is recommended that you turn off your auto red eye reducer every once and a while. We never have ours on. So every pic of DD has red eyes. It's a pain to then remove the red eye in snapfish, but at least I know I'm getting 2 red eyes and not just one.

I don't have my camera set to anything fancy- I get red-eye in many pictures. It was while I was manually changing the pictures from red eye that I noticed it. The one eye looked kind of cloudy in 3 pictures. It just looked very strange.

Thank you though, I will double check my settings!!

:cheerleader1:Kudos to you for getting it checked right away instead of just worrying about it!! I know that helps me a lot, but I'm a worrier. So glad it turned out to be nothing :)

We also had our DS checked because of that thread, and he looked OK as well!

I'm so glad to have had the info, though. Love the BBB!

Glad everything is ok. My sil is a pedi opthalmologist and I mentioned the whole, "white eye" thing to her from pictures and she said she wouldn't place too much merit on it.
