Our digital camera bit the dust this weekend, and I need to replace it (before Halloween!). DH is going to Best Buy this afternoon, any suggestions on what he should get or look for? We have pretty basic needs, something simple to use would be nice. Also, we did use the built in zoom lense fairly often, but that is the only "feature" that got any love.

My DS just got a Canon SD 1200IS camera. It's a great little camera. Takes nice pics and also short videos. Has a re-chargeable battery as opposed to AA batteries. It's easy enough for my 8 year old to use. I think they are selling for $180 @ costco (I think the price just went up a tad), thats where my mom and sister bought the one for DS. At Costco it came with a memory card too!

I am very happy with this Panasonic Lumix camera which is a power point and shoot (in between the small hand held cameras but not a DSLR)

The menu is super easy to use and I prefer a lot more to the older Canon IS5 I had before it. I would go to a camera shop and play with a few different models and see which one you like best. I have always been a Canon girl so I was honestly surprised that I was drawn to the Panasonic more than the Canon.

My DS just got a Canon SD 1200IS camera.

After much research, I got this for DD's birthday! We haven't used it yet b/c I didn't realize it didn't have a memory card in the package so I have to order one!

I have a Canon SD1100 from last year and if I were buying now, I'd get the SD1200. GREAT camera. Seriously.

I've been happy with my Kodak EasyShares, and I think they may be a little less expensive. I currently have the Z712IS, which probably has more features than you need (It has more than I've learned how to use in the last 22 months!)

My sister and I independently researched and purchased our cameras, and so we were very surprised to discover that we both have the same one!

I just got a Nikon Coolpix, one of the cheaper models, after one of my sisters recommended it to me. As of right now, I don't take a whole lot of pictures, but after DC comes, I know all the relatives are going to come out from hiding and demand pictures. My other sister has the Easy Share with printer, and she adores it. Last I had checked though, the paper and ink was on the expensive side, and I decided that if I didn't get an Easy Share, I have a good excuse to not print off pictures for people all the time. :p

Canon camera lover here. Lost a Canon camera a few years ago and didn't feel like I had to buy a new camera until it got lost. So, I got the SD800IS. Great camera. Recently, I accidently took a video and loved the quality so much that I will no longer use my camcorder anymore!

:yeahthat:

I have the Panasonic Lumix FZ28. I loooove it! It's bigger than those smaller cameras, but the zoom on it is fabulous. And since the lens doesn't go out as far as others when you're zooming, there isn't much of a problem with camera "shake" like with other super zooms. Check out dpreview.com. It's a great site. Good luck!

I got my Panasonic Lumix XS3 at costco two or three weeks ago and I'm liking it. It takes decent pics (not as good as our Nikon d40 SLR, but I wasn't expecting that it would) and it takes HD video. Good zoom and image stabilization. One thing - if you get a camera that takes video, especially HD video, you probably will want to lever up for a faster data card, so factor that into your budget. The costco package we have came with a 2gb card, but it was a bit slow for true hd video, so we got a 8gb class-10 card that works much better, for about $40.
