Any suggestions for a small, essentials only (e.g., diapers, wipes, disposable changing pads) diaper bag that DH and I can both carry?

We've already picked out a larger messenger bag.

Thanks!

With our ds1 I bought The First Years' fold and go changing pad at Target. It was a changing pad that folded into thirds and inside it had pockets for 1-2 diapers and some wipes. We would just clip it on to your belt, toss it into a purse or small bag or attach it to our baby carrier.

Kind of like this one:

This looks interesting- it has a strap like a purse:

I have thing like Diapees/ Wipees that I just throw in my bag nowadays.

Which one did you pick? ;)

For a smaller quick trip bag you can do a mat only type thing like pp mentioned. Those are inexpensive and easy.

The FV Escape Pod is handy, and easily thrown into a larger bag. Lots of moms come up with a faux version of this by checking out the cosmetic bags at their local Target/Walmart/Kmart for something similar. When my kids were much littler, we used a see through version from Walmart that was great and quite inexpensive.

You can do a true [small] bag also. Something that would carry the essentials plus a sippy is great. Lots of things work for this. The Lands End Little Tripper and the JJ Cole Logic bag both come to mind. Non-diaper bags that come to mind would be the Small Ameribags, The Overland Equipment Donner, the small Timbuk2 Mini Metro and the small LLBean Travel Touring Bag.

For our larger bag, DH picked out the Diaper Dude Messenger II (http://www.diaperdude.com/store/dd-messenger-ii-black-c-251-p-5-pr-16230.html), which I am fine with since it means he will be willing to do most of the carrying :) Plus, he plans to use it later as a laptop bag.

Thanks to both posters for the suggestions! I am running them by DH to see which ones he likes best.

I got a My Royal Heinie and I love it!

http://www.myroyalheinie.com/shop/the-daypack.html

It has a little strap and is like a little purse that fits diapers, changing pad, wipes, hand sanitizer, and diaper rash cream. It has a bottle pocket on either side (I breastfeed and have never used the pockets, but it looks like they wouldn't be nearly large enough to hold our Born Free bottles in them -- something seems off with that part of the bag design). The bag I got is red with an orange trim. It's perfect to put in the bottom of the jogging stroller for short walks, or to bring along on trips to the grocery store or library when I don't want to bring my regular, bigger diaper bag.

You can get the older version of the bag (before the redesign) for pretty cheap, too, at Target for about $15 or so.

DH and I both use this one:

I don't know what your budget is, but I think it was ~$45 in the boutique B&M store where I found it. More than I would typically spend but I really love it. It has magnet closures, it's really lightweight, and I can fit a ton of stuff in there (4 diapers, travel wipes case, extra shirt or lightweight romper, wallet, camera(s)). We have it in the "manly" fog gray color, and the strap adjusts for when we trade off. We both usually wear it messenger style, but I carry it on my shoulder sometimes too if I'm not wearing a kid!
