How much do you pay to have your oil changed?

I got a quote of $150 by my dealership. $350 for the entire oil change/engine tune-up.

Around $50-60 for an "A" service, which is oil/filter and something else. Honda has these crazy lettered service bundles. Other than the A service, they all seem to run around $300 (though there is one that is $500).

ETA: I go to the dealership, not an independent mechanic.

Oil, lube and filter $35ish at my regular mechanic. 30/60/90/120 full service (tune up and inspection) is in the range of $300, including oil, lube and filter. 2005 Toyota Camry.

We could get the oil lube and filter cheaper at a Jiffy Lube type place but we like our mechanics and unlike the Jiffy places they never tries to sell us on stuff. And they (pair of brothers) do not charge us for things a lot of people would charge for.

For BMWs that doesn't sound too out of the ball park per co workers who have the same cars, esp. since you have to have synthetic oil. I would check with some other independent German mechanics too. Good luck!

I pay $30 I think at our Big O Tire shop for V-6, which also includes rotating of tires.

I think it very much depends on the car. I used to pay about 2x the normal rate for BMW since it was not easy to do it and could only be done at a place that has equipment for BMWs. I had my car serviced at an independent mechanic at the same time. Our other car was in $70-$80 range for synthetic, if memory serves me well. We had it done at the same time as a bunch of other tuning so it could have been a bit cheaper.

I go to a Honda dealer in an affluent area (about 40 minutes away), where we purchased our van because of their price AND because of their service perks (free loaners, awesome kid play room if I do choose to wait, absolutely stellar service). A1 service, which is oil and oil filter (Honda brand) .... $28, including labor. I kid you not. I was shocked because DH's family owns a chain of auto parts stores and even with his family discount, we'd probably pay just under that for the parts alone. I even questioned them the first time ... made sure they actually put in a new filter and all that stuff (DH checked too). The price has not changed since I've owned the van (four years). OT but I even took it in a few months ago because DH was convinced we needed new brakes and new tires. We wanted them to do it (even though DH was raised to know everything about cars, given the family business) just because DH is getting lazy in his old age and it's a big job. They actually said, no, you don't need new brakes, just new tires. Quoted some mechanics about brake wear (in millimeters, and we were well above the minimum amount of wear that Honda goes by) that flew by my head. I was just dumbfounded ... a dealer's service department that's not looking to screw you over. THIS is why when it's time to buy another car, we we will be repeat customers.

Nothing! I got a lifetime of free oil changes when I bought my Hyundai :) Little did they know that I was commuting 90 miles a day and needing an oil change about every 6 weeks LOL Before that I paid $30-50 at an oil change place.

Around $80 for synthetic and it comes with a car wash. I really go for the car wash. :) I go to an independent place but I'd never go to Jiffy Lube in my town. It's awful and they're very dishonest. The dealer is about the same as I pay but they don't wash the cars anymore so they lost my business!

If it's a BMW you need to do the synthetic oil and it will not be cheap. You can't compare to a car that uses non-synthetic oil.

$80-$100 dollars every 5,000 miles. We have 2 VW deisels, and they require "special" oil.

I think I pay about $36 for a simple oil change. I have a 4WD Highlander. Your quote sounds kind of high.

DH does it himself. One vehicle is using synthetic and the other 2 use regular. I think oil+filter is around $30 for the synthetic and really good filter.

I used to do my own oil changes with synthetic oil and new filter. It's really not that difficult to do if you have a garage and a few tools. I might look into that as I found it very satisfying to do myself, it was very inexpensive and it didn't take long.

I just had the oil changed on my Honda. $20 special. Otherwise it's $40.

Lexus is $60-90.

BMW is free. BMWs come with included maintenance for first 4 yrs. Otherwise, out of warranty, max I've heard of is $150, but typically it's $60-100. Find out what exactly they're offering for $150, but I'd just go elsewhere instead of paying $150. Even with synthetic oil, it shouldn't cost that much.

I go to jiffy lube and overpay at $50. I could go to a garage (and I have gone to one for years), but I cannot leave the car for the day until they get to it b/c of preschool, work, OT etc... The garage only charges $20.

It is a BMW X5, out of warranty b/c it is a 2005. The quote is from the dealer here in Chicago. Unfortunately, I don't have time to look around as I need the car this weekend for a long trip. It sounds like $150 is not outrageous.

$0 :) My husband does it for free - well he pays for the oil. And my Subaru takes a ton of oil. I'm lucky!

Sometimes my DH and his friends do it themselves, but he doesn't have that much time anymore. At the Toyota dealership where I bought the car, back in MI, they have a running special - all oil changes are $15. Does not matter if you want synthetic for cold weather (I sometimes do) or not. It's a great deal, and I always arrange to do the change if I'm down there. Here it might run $50? I really don't know. As for the full service tune-up, again, I really don't remember, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was in the hundreds. Although our mechanic does a winter inspection thing (which includes putting the winter tires on) for somewhere around $75.
