I'd do the money before I'd do the gift - she may be hoping for money to help pay her bills at the holidays. We always give our nanny cash, plus a gift for each of her youngest daughters, who sometimes come along to help her out.

I would do money and a token gift. It's very nice of you to think of her children.

I agree with PPs. If I was the nanny, I would be hoping for the cash. The fact that she is getting 2 weeks paid while you are away "doesn't count" in my mind as a bonus because that is your agreement, part of her normal contract so to speak, and because she still has bills to pay for those weeks. I will add that I don't think you are obligated to give her a bonus, but if you choose to, I would go with cash in a card.

I give our nanny an end of the year cash bonus. I would also get her a gift such as a gift certificate or clothes or something worth $100 or so if she accepted gifts (she doesn't due to her religion). And then this year in addition to the cash I think I will include a nice letter about how much she means to our family.

Crisp notes are always welcome! Maybe with some home-made treats?
