I'm sending a very belated baby gift. (well it wouldn't have been that late if my first package didn't get lost by fedex!) I've 2 board books picked out already and I need a third suggestion. It's for a 5 month old girl and she has a big brother. I'm not necessarily looking for a "girly" book but not a very popular title as she may have it already.

Here are the 2 board books I have picked out already.

Curly's Friends
http://www.amazon.com/Curlys-Friends-Touchy-Feely-Board-Books/dp/0794511805/ref=wl_it_dp_o?ie=UTF8&coliid=I1R82R6JLWF13Z&colid=35KKB60H9DB1Z

Bear in Sunshine

Thanks!

Does it have to be a board book? I love the TY books (waterproof, tear resistant, chew resistant) for little ones that age. http://www.indestructiblesinc.com/

For board books I like Clip Clop. http://www.amazon.com/Clip-Clop-Nicola-Smee/dp/1905417098

Those look cool but it looks like it's not available for sale until Dec. 2009?

Our favorite board books are the Sandra Boynton books (pretty popular though, so maybe already has them...) and the Olivier Dunrea books http://www.amazon.com/Peedie-Gossie-Friends-Olivier-Dunrea/dp/0618356525 Have fun shopping!

Ugh..looks like they are being published by someone new. TY used to publish them. Looks like they renamed the books, too. Here is a link to one of the books I have http://www.amazon.com/Things-Wings-Wordless-Picture-Book/dp/0977963128. Maybe you can find some (Kaaren Pixton is the author)...they are great books!

I :heartbeat::heartbeat::heartbeat: Kiss Goodnight (http://www.amazon.com/Kiss-Good-Night-Sam-Books/dp/0763620947/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1256695300&sr=8-1). I bought it based on a recommendation here. We have tons of board books, but this one will be put away in DS' memory box for his kids one day. I have no idea why I like it so much but I do - I think it's because of the kisses. I give DS kisses when the mom gives Sam his kisses and DS says again just like Sam does in the book. I've never seen it at anyone else's house.

These are two of my girls favorites. They're about a little kitten named Calico and her (mis)adventures.

Friends for Calico
http://www.amazon.com/Friends-Calico-Karma-Wilson/dp/1416919066/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1256695281&sr=8-1

And "Uh Oh, Calico"
http://www.amazon.com/Uh-oh-Calico-Karma-Wilson/dp/141691904X/ref=pd_sim_b_7

I really like Uh Oh Calico because she gets into scrapes and says "Mama do you think I'm bad?" and Mama says "Do not worry, I'm not mad. You're as good as good can be, a blessing every day to me. You'll make mistake goodness knows, but I'll always love you Calico!" It's so sweet. (And yes, I typed that from memory!)

They also like the lift the flap books. "Where is Baby's Belly Button" is a big hit, especially now when they point along to their own belly buttons etc, so cute!

we loved the Laurie Petricelli books!! we had: Yummy Yucky, Quiet Loud, Big Little, and Blankie. all wonderful! I see that she has more now.
http://www.amazon.com/Leslie-Patricelli/e/B001IGJR2C/ref=ntt_athr_dp_pel_1

we also LOVED Dear Zoo
http://www.amazon.com/Dear-Zoo-Lift-Flap-Book/dp/141694737X/ref=pd_sim_b_14

and The Going to Bed Book (DD's fav Boynton book)
http://www.amazon.com/Going-Bed-Book-Sandra-Boynton/dp/0671449028/ref=pd_sim_b_13

and The Big Book of Animals
http://www.amazon.com/Big-Animal-Book-Board-Books/dp/0312490836/ref=pd_sim_b_8

DD also loved those fisher price flap books you can find at Costco sometimes. and also those counting books with one more or one less thing on each page. we had a fun one with bees and at the end of the book there was a buzzing sound. also had one with butterflies, and one with ladybugs.

I'm not sure how much you want to spend, but this cube of little board books is one of my go to new baby gifts:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0811832783/ref=ord_cart_shr?_encoding=UTF8&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&v=glance
it's great in about every way--baby can put books into the box, also sorting, stacking, & spelling when they get older. DD used hers for YEARS.

that's all i can think of off the top of my head! Let us know what you get!

edited to say, i just reread your original post and maybe my sugestions are too well known? sorry. maybe they'll help somone else...

"Is your mama a llama?" is a good one. I don't know too many people who had heard of it and have given it twice already.

I totaly second "The Monster At The End Of This Book"! I loved it when I was little, and DD loves to turn the pages and make Grover scream.
Another big favorite, "How Big Is A Pig". Can't think of the author right now, but it's published by Barefoot Books.

Many of our favorites have been mentioned, but here is one my 6 year old is loving reading to his brother (board books have a second life with early readers.)
