Worried...daughter kept left fist clenched for hours

I was putting my daughter's jacket on & I noticed she had the last 3 fingers on her left hand clenched. I thought maybe she had something in her hand, but I opened it & there was nothing. So I checked to see if maybe she had a cut or hurt herself, but I didn't see anything alarming. Over 3 hours later and she was still only using her thumb & forefinger and she wouldn't allow me to open her fist. The advice nurse said I could bring her in if I chose to. Does anyone know what could be wrong if she's acting normal otherwise?

How old is she? When our girls were small, like still in the NICU, they kept their fists clenched, and the OT/PT showed us how to massage them to help them to open their hands. It was their thumbs that were clenched though, little lobster hands.
