The other day DH and I were discussing what we were going to do for dinner. (We had both forgotten to pull meat for dinner from the freezer). DS#1 comes up and says, "You guys haven't gone out on a date in a while?" we both deny it but it's true it's been several months if not a year. So he then says, " Why don't you two go out and I'll feed them" points to his sibs, "and keep an eye on them." DH and I think about it for about a minute and then say, "Yes." DH changes DD#2's diaper and asks DS#2 to change her diaper if it needs done (DS#1 isn't comfortable changing his sister's diaper).

We went to a local sit down restaurant and had a nice quiet meal and didn't talk about the kids. We were gone for about an hour to an hour and a half. THe house didn't burn down, the kids were fed, no one was in tears. It was so nice. And I'm so proud DS#1 is old enough and responsible enough for us to trust him to keep and eye on his siblings.

Wow!! What a fantastic son you have! I look forward to the day when Gator can do that. He's already such a huge help and so proud of being the responsible big brother. He'll be a great babysitter. But, I have a hard time seeing him initiating the idea like your son did. :tongue5:

That's great!!! What a sweetheart. :)

I have 5.5 years between mine so odds are ds1 will get roped into babysitting and carpooling when the time comes. Somehow I don't see him volunteering but hopefully I'll be proven wrong. :)

Wow...I have in-laws that don't offer that! (And I generally like my in-laws just fine.)

You're raising a great son!
