View Full Version : What are your go-to shoes for fall/winter?

You know, the shoes that you wear for everything? The shoes that you put on when you need to pick up a kid at preschool? The shoes that you wear to Target and the mall and a haircut? The shoes that you couldn't be without?

I have a pair of Born shoes that I have had for years and they are really starting to look their age. I need to replace them, but I haven't the faintest idea of what I should get.

I have a pair of neutral/ metallic sneakers from New Balance. They are not athletic shoes. Found them:
http://www.dsw.com/dsw_shoes/catalog/product.jsp?index=27&sort=&category=&prodId=175878&brand=300255

I love them. They just spoke to me. :) I wear them with most of my jean based, day to day outfits.

I have boots very similar to these: high boot (http://www.dsw.com/dsw_shoes/catalog/product.jsp?index=29&sort=&category=dsw12cat520002&prodId=193605&brand=) but mine are by Nine West. I bought them on sale this summer and they are very comfortable to walk in, but slightly dressy. Good with jeans or skirts, and I like the added warmth of a tall boot, even though they're not lined.

Until it got seriously cold here I was alternating a pair of clogs by Frye and a pair by Clarks. I also own several pairs of "fashion" tennis shoes in gold leather, red leather, and green suede. For lots of standing in a work environment I like my black suede Naturalizer Mary Janes - but I can't find a picture. I enjoy my Merrell Jungle Mocs for walking - my present pair is red suede. I had two pairs of Josef Seibel closed back clogs in quick succession - wore both right into the ground! And I still wear my red Tod's ballet flats. I rotate shoes frequently because it's better for your feet, and I will admit that I am a shoe-aholic. But I never pay full price!

We are fast approaching winter boot weather here, though, so it will be time to put shoes away for awhile. I wear Birk clogs in the house.

Warm/dry months: ancient leather Keens (Jamestowns, I think, from maybe their first year?) When these finally die, I will, quite literally, cry. My fondness for them is quite ridiculous and they are irreplaceable!
Wet/cold months: ancient Keen leather clogs in several colors. Love em, but any Keen slip-ons would do.

Sense a theme, here? Comfortable, easy to slide on, and comfortable. I gave up on shoes for cuteness a long time ago!

I just got these Keens with a 20% off coupon from Sierra Trading Post. Not sure if "winter white" is appropriate for this time of year, but I have been wearing them a lot and really like them.

I posted about these from 6pm.com last week. They were $17.95
http://www.6pm.com/softwalk-bergamo-mocha-pearlized-patent
The insoles in this pair of shoes is unlike ANYTHING I have ever felt. It is seriously like walking on a cloud. I am so IN LOVE! I actually swapped them out and put them in my Keen's too. These are a mocha patent color. I think they look cute with dark jeans (they dress it up a bit), and I have worn them with navy pants to church too.

I have two pair of keen boots that I got last year on deep discount, so I will probably live in them once it starts getting nasty here. If you are looking for a dressier boot, I have these in several colors - http://www.amazon.com/Aerosoles-Womens-Nice-Less-Ankle/dp/B000GAWQ42 (except for this butterscotch color which I TOTALLY need to find now). I have chocolate brown, black, and a bone color all for under $20 at Macy's/Kaufmann's etc. They are super comfy and look equally nice with jeans and dress pants.

SO cute. I love these. They even come in wide sizes. But the thing that keeps me from hitting the "buy" button is that I struggle with what socks to wear with these. Any suggestions??

I wear these:

I like them because they are both brown and black (a metallic brown with black rubber and straps for accent) so I can wear them with anything. I'm on my 3rd year wearing them and they still look great! Love them.

Year-round, much to my DH's chagrin, my go-to shoes are my New Balance 1122's. They are clunky and dorky, but have saved me from ankle, knee and hip pain because, when I am heavy (as in weighing in at above 160lbs) I need a "motion control" shoe.

HOWEVER, now that bending over is becoming painful (and/or nauseating), I'm looking for a slip-on with at least a "stability" rating (I am a pronator with very little arch ... plus I am heavy - 224 lbs at last doc's visit, started pgcy at 216) to avoid knee pain. Oh, and I usually need a wide width in at least a women's size 10.

I've heard lots of recs for Dansko clogs and lots of their designs are very cute, but only the Professional model seems to come in a wide width.

My question is - how roomy is the toebox in a Dansko? (There is a shop 8 minutes away that sells Dansko, so I can go try them IRL, but I don't want to fall in love & then be disappointed.)

Very. I have a wide foot too and the regulars fit me fine.

My Dansko professional clogs are my go-to shoe. Not hugely stylish but comfy and make me taller. Though my current pair are ~8y/o and looking a bit battered.

I picked up a Born knee high boot last year at Marshalls. Very comfy.

I also got these at Marshalls yesterday http://www.zappos.com/n/p/p/7463014/c/3.html but I paid $59 and not $90.

I also have a pair of El Naturalista clogs that I got at Nordstrom Rack. These will last a while, and I'll replace with a Dankso clog I think.

I also wear my brown nike sneakers. We don't really have to worry about rain here in SoCal, but when it does rain, I'll wear my born boots or my hiking boots.

Jera - I have to look out for those Aerosoles boots. Yummy....

Thanks!

A Walking Company store just opened in the local mall, where I went to get some maternity clothes (wanted to try on the sweater dress from ON & get more l/s tees) so I went to try on Danskos ... and ended up buying 2 pair to get me through the rest of the winter.

Bending over is starting to become a big issue for me right now, so I am glad to have the slip-ons!

Knee-his or peds, IMO.

Socks would make them look little-girl-ish.

I got these a few weeks ago and love them! They are my not-at-work go-to's right now. I am thinking about going back and getting them in black, too. They just look a bit nicer than my usual Diesel/Privo sneaker look, and are just long enough for me to wear with my trouser-style jeans. I did NOT pay that for them-- I got them at a B&M store...$120ish, then a 25% coupon.

I am in love with all these shoes. Anything described as walking on air and I'm ready to buy right now! (JeraW, if I could find those Soft Soles in my size, I would have hit buy right away!)

I need shoes with a wide toebox because I get toe and foot injuries from any abrasion around the toebox. I have red Born MJs (http://www.zappos.com/born-gianna-rosso-full-grain-leather)similar to these (but cooler looking!), and have worn them maybe once because the stiff leather bothers my feet. What I need is flat shoes that feel like my comfy New Balance sneakers (http://www.zappos.com/new-balance-wa790-wr790-red-grey) and will work for someone who walks everywhere -- but also look gorgeous or at least presentable at work meetings or dinners out with friends! Are there any Danskos or Privos that would meet these criteria?

I'll keep an eye on this thread!

Soft SOles were just on sale again on 6pm.com Do you get their emails? I noticed they had restocked in some of the sizes and I ALMOST got them in black too! They do come in wide widths, but not sure if you need wide all around, or just in the toe. I have a normal-sized foot and they are not tight in the toe box on me. They are a bit small overall, but that was my fault for ordering down a half-size because I wanted them. I took the insoles out and out them in my Keen Calistoga's, and am using the Keen insoles in the Soft Soles. Works great. good luck finding something! Iknow how hard it is to marry comfort and style! most of my "stylish" shoes I can't walk more than 5 minutes in...

I got a coupon in the mail because it was a new store opening thing. I think they did a mailer to my entire area; however, while I was there, they gave me for 25% off my next purchase there. I think it must be new store marketing. Sorry, that probably doesn't help much--but, they were originally marked down by Clarks, so they may reduce them again just as a price point reduction.

My standard fall outfit is jeans paired with a long sleeve shirt, black socks and black Clark clogs like these http://www.zappos.com/clarks-february-black-leather

If I am uber casual, it is workout pants with a t-shirt and Merrell mesh clogs- http://www.zappos.com/merrell-encore-breeze-grey

Pretty much all of my shoes are slide/mules/clogs. We don't wear shoes in the house so I like ones that I can just step in and out of.

I have 4 pairs of Dansko professional clogs (black, brown, navy, and black patent) and now I want red patent ones. I work in a hospital so I wear them with pant suits etc--especially the patent ones. I wear them all weekend. I have bad feet (pronate to the point of having bad knees) so I totally need support. The ballet flats are cute but there just is not enough support.

I'm pretty sure they are the same ones Jera posted but they don't have the camel color. I also got a tall pair of the Aerosoles boots in black to wear with skirts. I bought a pair of brown tall riding boots last month to also wear with skirts and I love them!

Right now:

Ecco Mary Janes (they're about 3 years old)
Doc Marten tie ups

Dansko Mary Janes

Basically, anything I own that's European sized with less than a 2 inch heel. My foot seems to have grown with this pregnancy.
