Srarah has asked for a camera for the holidays. She seldom actually asks for anything, so I would like to do this for her. I'd like to get the cheapest camera that is easiest to use. I would like to keep the cost at $100 or less.

I saw a few models at target.com in the $69-$99 range.

Fujifilm FinePix 10.0MP Digital Camera - Silver (A170) - $90
Kodak EasyShare 9.2MP Digital Camera - Silver (C913) - $90
Polaroid 5.0MP Digital Camera - Magenta (CAA-540PC) - $70
Nikon 8.0MP Compact Digital Camera - Silver (L19) - $90
Olympus 12.0MP Digital Camera - Blue (FE-46) - $100

I've heard that, on Thanksgiving day, CVS will have a 9mp Kodak digital camera for $80 with $20 extra bucks back. I got DH this camera (but lower mp) a few years ago for his birthday and we're still very happy with it.

I have the Nikon L18 and both of my kids can use it (3 and 4). I think it takes great pictures. My first digital camera was a Kodak and the pics were horrible so I'm a little anti Kodak. (I'm sure they've improved since then, but I still can't say I'd purchase one). I have an Olympus DSLR and love it so I wouldn't hesitate to buy one of their point ans shoots. I think it's a great gift idea! My kids have the Vtechs and they use them all the time.

THis past b-day, we got DD#1 (5) a Samsung 860 camera. Our criteria were under $100 and pink. She wanted a princess camera, so we also got her some princess stickers and put those on. Voila. Princess camera. She has no problems using the camera. We added a SD card and a LowePro case.

LOL! I am leaning toward the Nikon just because we are a Nikon family. But the Fuji digital P&S cameras get really good reviews.

I can't count on being able to go out on Black Friday. We'll be visiting family and seriously, just not how I want to spend my Thanksgiving weekend.

Here's the Nikon for $69.95. I ordered a memory card from that store before. http://beatthat.com/products/show_goog/nikon-coolpix-l19-silver?gclid=CN7V4_y7550CFYJx5QodSHnTKg

The CVS deal is actually starting Thanksgiving Day. Still overlaps your family time, but doesn't include the Black Friday craziness.

Dd has a Samsung BL103 http://tiny.cc/9nt74 . She got it for Xmas last year. When my camera died we used hers. It takes great pics. My only small issue is it takes 2 AA batteries. I prefer the lithium. On the other hand we use the recharageables. It was a 59.00 black Friday sale. Target has one that seems to be very close http://tiny.cc/pdYUR
it looks like it has a smaller viewer.

Do you have any old Canons that you can trade in? We got Ds one of the little simple ELPHs for his b-day from the trade-in program so it was about $100.

Alas, no. Right now we only have a dSLR and my Nikon P&S, but mine is actually broken.

barging in to ask how this works? I have my old broken canon sitting in my garage and a 6YO DD who is dying for a camera of her own. :)

TIA~

You will need the serial number of your current camera.

I've done it many times. It's cheaper than a new camera, but what they offer you will depend upon the model you are trading in. You will have to pay tax and shipping and what they send is a refurbished unit. I've never had any problems, though.

Can you tell me about this program?? I haven't heard of this and our Canon is on its last legs.

Beth, good luck finding a camera for Sarah. I am glad that you started this thread, as we are in the same boat for DS this year. TY!! :)

I'll be the voice of dissent here (lol) and go ahead and recommend the Kodak Easy Share. I have had one for 5 years and it has been very easy to use and taken really excellent pictures. I have been really happy with it and am just now in the market to replace it w/ a DSLR.

Well, I think it has to be technically broken first. then you call, tell them you want to try it in under the loyalty program and see what their offerings are. Alternately if you like the one you have you can spend about $90 to just have it 'repaired.'

Agreed. I still have my first digital p&s and its a Fuji, my dad bought it in 2003 and its been thru hell. We've killed 5 kodaks since then (DN has broken 3 and MIL got one wet, the other just gave up) but the Fuji is still kicking even though its been wet multiple times, dropped more than I want to think about, and taken a lot of general use abuse. The only pro I have for a kodak is that it does have a more simple interface but the fuji is still probably better for kids.

DSD (16) has gone through two Kodak Easy Shares. They have both broken within months of Chirstmas (two years in a row). She'd like another camera and this time I will not buy the Kodak. I don't think she's particulary hard on it, but she also not handling it with kid gloves the way I baby my Canon. I'd get the Nikon.

Thanks for the info. I may try this tomorrow. DH and I were passing the SD1100 on the plane yesterday (both had lapbabies) and we dropped it with the lens out. He tried to fix it by stomping the lens back into place. Way to go dude!
