DS (nine months) is teething badly, and has started to chew on the rail of his crib! Is there anything I can do to stop this? It's a wood crib, and he's actually making tooth marks on it, soon it will be at risk of splinters!

We're trying not to leave him in his crib when he's awake at all, which works, but isn't very practical. I was only putting him in his crib when I use the bathroom or to rotate laundry, but in the two or three minutes that takes, he's standing up, chewing on th edang rail again!

We have both fridge and frozen teethers for him, which he likes but not loves. Any other suggestions, please??

After seeing my sister and good friend have this issue, we ordered these at their suggestion:

Haven't had to use them yet since DS is only 7 months, but I am taking their word that it will work, LOL.

I just duct taped a bath towel around one side of DD's crib... there's my cheap solution ;). When she's past the teething stage I'll probably buy one of those furniture markers to try to at least color in the spots she damaged. Little beavers!

We used this heavy rubber stuff that fits perfectly on the rail and is the length of the crib. We got it 4 years ago at BRU.

I found some pre-molded protector strips in the babyproofing section at Baby Depot. They are made by Prince Lionhart and just slide right over the crib rail. They were easy, and somewhat inexpensive (something like $12 or $15, I think).

DD never chewed on her crib so we never had to use anything for her. But I just have a feeling DS will be a chewer (for instance, at 5 months he tries to chew my thumb right off) so I already installed them on his.

Hopefully your DS will get past the bad teething soon!

I got something at BRU that was similar to the one linked above from One Step Ahead.

we got a fabric teether kinda like this

http://www.amazon.com/Leachco-Teether-Convertible-Cover-Ivory/dp/B001D20K40/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=baby-products&qid=1257046393&sr=1-1

I didnt want a gummy kind because it would have to be stuck down on the crib.... the fabric is great because I can just pull it off and wash as needed- it velcros on....

We had the gummi crib covers: http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2379138 They stayed on long enough to last us out of the teething stage and did not damage the paint/wood when removed. Ours are marked pthalate free on the package. Don't remember if they're the same brand as these or not.

Be cautious with the hard plastic kinds that snap on the rail - I had a friend who's DD got 2 teeth stuck under it and ended up pulling one out in fear and damaging the second one so badly they had to remove it.

We decided we didn't care. BAD PARENTS! The wood is natural (not painted).

Thank you, everyone, for you ideas!

I think we're going to try to get the fabric rail cover; our crib rail is a round dowel-like piece, so I don't think the stick-on gummi kind will work for us.

Wish us luck, and thanks.........
