I think buying for a 14 year old is like buying for an adult- you pretty much need to know what sort of things interest them. There is too big of a range of interests at that age for most any single item to be nearly universally appealing. I would try and find out what the boy wants.

If you can't, choose something that anyone could make use of, like a gift card to a book and music store.

I agree with Katie- I would ask.

If you don't want to or can't then o with generic things like a gc to a movie theater.

My now 17yo nephew loves to get Legos (as does my 24yo BIL). I'm getting dn the mini Millenium Falcon.

I have lots of teen nieces and nephews. We usually do GCs because that's what they prefer. Last year we did Game Stop (sells video games), and this year will probably do iTunes GCs.

Magazine subscription if they will actually read it and if you can identify a particular magazine they'd be interested in?

THanks,
I was trying to avoid the ITunes route since I always get him that (he is my nephew). He is still into Legos and loves to draw, so maybe I will go that direction. I was hoping for a suggestion of some cool item that I did not know about :)

A gift card. They know what they want and they feel empowered by getting it for themselves so its my go to gift.

cash is the answer here. They have gotten gift cards in the past and I end up buying them from them.
