DS is 6 and his drawing/handwriting has really improved but could use some more work. DD is going to be 4 and needs to learn the basics of drawing....which drawing books are best for them...not too advanced but will help them w/ their drawing skills. I don't mind buying multiple books but just want to get what is best for them...tia!

The Ed Emberley books that were mentioned last week are good. Ds1 (6) loves this one: http://www.amazon.com/Ed-Emberleys-Drawing-Book-World/dp/0316789720/

I find that letting them doodle really helps with the fine motor skills which actually are still developing in your six year old so no need to worry about the younger one yet.

When it comes to art and drawing I really agree with this person's approach to authentic art:

Letting them draw over and over, just from observation and for their own practice helps a ton without the additional books.

There is a set called doodle books. Can't find them online, but I'll post the link when I get them down from my teaching stuff. They are very clear, steps are laid out in a line, and my K-1 students found great success with them.

We have a couple of the Klutz books. The one that comes to mind is tracing a hand to make different things. DD loved it around 3-4 yo. It was easy enough, but she could actually have something to show for her work.
