trying to come up with Xmas gift ideas for DS. What age is best for a train table? He'll be 2 in early April. I'm thinking I should hold off till next year but its SOOOO hard to come up with gift ideas when you already have almost every toy known to man!

I think that your son is at just the right age and will grow into the table and use it for many years. We've had one since our oldest was around 18 months. It actually gets sooo much use that we bought a nicer (potterybarn like) version a few years ago because the first table we bought was small and cheap looking. My sons are 5 and 6 and the table is used to set up their castle and knights, shadow puppet theater, marble run, etc...

I hope you get as much use and value out of yours as we did ours.

he's at the perfect age now. My almost 17 month old daughter looves the train table at the local children's museum, and her cousin's table. :)

He's a great age. DS got one at his 2nd birthday and could have easily gotten it before, but I was talked out of it. It's still in use 3.5 years later, although it now holds legos, marble runs, etc.

DS will be gettign one for Xmas, he'll be 23 months, and I've been wanting to get it for like 3 months now, but since it's a big gift we'll wait for Santa.

Thanks! Can anyone recommend a good one? I saw a KidKraft one at Costco, and also have seen a Melissa & Doug one.

We have a table, but it never gets used for trains (our track layouts are much too elaborate, thanks to all of the brio that my parents saved from my childhood!). It does get used for other activities, like the pp said. We get much better use from a set of preschool height table and chairs (perfect for drawing or games).
