I'm dying over the cuteness of all the crochet play food out there but I don't know how to crochet. Will someone look at this site and tell me if I am thinking crazy thoughts to attempt this project. They lay the instructions out clearly (row by row) http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/directory/foods.php
I am a quick study but be honest with me.

Here is more to drool over...I have to learn this! http://www.etsy.com/shop/CraftyAnna

I've made a number of items from the list you have, I never crocheted before and started to make play food about 2 yrs ago. It's not that hard. I got a simple "how to crochet" book from AC Moore that came with needles and step by step instructions on how to do the stiches. You can get it for around $6-7 with a coupon. It's a lot of fun!

I made these cupcakes as favors for DD's 3rd birthday:

I made this sushi set:

My mom did these (all the free patterns from the site you posted):

BTW, I did buy this pattern from Crafy Anna: http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?ref=sr_list_1&listing_id=32943598&ga_search_query=popcorn&ga_search_type=user_shop_ttt_id_5518990

I've only made the popcorn set though...need to start crocheting! Her patterns are easy to understand.

I've never made food nor have I picked up my needles in years. But from looking at the pictures & instructions, this shouldn't be too hard. I think you should give it a go. The flat ones should be easier than the 3-d ones, IYKWIM.

Show pictures when you're done - I'd love to see them!

I used to crochet, though I've only made quilts, not food! I think that from the pictures posted it would be fairly easy to do because they all seem to involve only a basic stitch, nothing fancy. Also as a pp said, the flat ones will be easier than the 3D ones (although it looks like the sushi pieces are separate pieces, crocheted separately, and then sewn together which would be easier), it also might be more difficult (memory-wise) with something like the bacon where you'll want to watch which side you're adding the 2nd color to.

When I made the sushi, it was one long strip of crochted yarn that I rolled up...I've seen more complex ones but this was easier for a beginner. I didn't use a pattern, I winged it ;)

And the cupcake was easy, it's two pieces and you sew it together with yarn. So the 3Ds aren't even that hard. The flat ones use generally single crochet stiches which is super easy.

alien-- those are AWESOME! i knit, and don't crochet...well, except when it's called for as "finishing" of a knitted item. i've done a wee bit of that. i've made TONS of knitted food- most recently a popcorn/cranberry garland for lu's christmas tree this year. i'd bet that crocheting these items would have been WAY faster because crochet is perfect for doing "round" things...knitting is really not.

so far i've mostly done cupcakes(i've knit TONS of cupcakes) and fruits and veggies. oh and i've knit ice cream cones...tons and tons of icecream cones!
