I was 35 for my first and will be 37 for my second. (That's A LOT of "what's in the water" as far as why we're having another sooner than most people I know think we should.) Our 10-year wedding anniversary was 3 weeks before DD was born.

My husband is 41 and as old as most of the parents of his high school students. His older sister has a granddaughter who is older than our first. Yeah, we feel old, but I'm SO glad we're finally getting to this part of our lives.

Ditto. We were the youngest parents at preschool with ds and still just about the youngest at his elementary school in his grade. Pretty much every other mom friend I have is 5 years older than me. It got very annoying when other people would hear our ages and call us "babies". I wanted to say, "yeah, well you're old". :) I knew they didn't really mean it in a condescending way so it didn't bug me too much.

That is us too - but it was the exact same with my parents. They were a solid 5 years younger than any of my friends' parents. I had my first when I was 23, but I attribute that more to marrying my highschool sweetheart (at 21) than anything else. I am called a baby all the time by my friends - it doesn't help that I am the same age as the parents in DD's class (but they are on their 1st) and everytime they hear that I have an 8 year old their eyes bug out of their head!

Almost 38 with #1 and I was 3 mos past my 40th bday with #2. I didn't get married till I was 35. I wanted to just be married for a year and then we tried for 6 mos before I got pg.

I was not fit to be a mother when I was younger. I like being in a place financially, emotionally, and career where I can fairly easily acess the resources I need to make parenting as easy as it can be for my family. On the flip side, if I was 30 when I had my first, I probably would not have pre-eclampsia with #1 and I would definitely have more ENERGY!! But this way, I have the motivation to stay in shape and keep going for the next 20 years.

I don't think of myself as old--more on the young side of middle aged :cheerleader1:

But it is sobering to think that next year when DD goes to kindergarten I will be the same age my mom was when I graduated from COLLEGE!!!

I'm right on the cusp between 2 categories ... I'll turn 32 within 19 days of my due-date (birthday is 3/29; EDD is 3/10) so, unless Baby is over 2 weeks "late", I'll still be 31, but so close to 32 that this poll is making me crazy!

29 with #1. It's interesting that I was just about 30 when having my first, but my mom was 30 when she had me, her third and final kid. Also, my grandma was 40, I think, when she had my mom, & my grandpa was like 50 or 51. It was her second marriage, so my mom's older half-sister is 20 years older. My grandma and aunt were pregnant at the same time, and my mom was an aunt before she was born. Interesting how some things change a lot between generations.
In the middle of labor w/DD, I told the nurse that I couldn't believe teenagers could ever do this! It was hard, and I'm sure glad I wasn't a young pup when trying- I don't know how I would have done!
I remember being in grad school, newly married, and mapping out when I'd like to have our kids: 4 in 2-year intervals, with the last one coming before the dreaded AMA of 35 ;). It took us 11 months to conceive DD, so I started later than I'd planned, and now we may stop at 2 or 3 instead of 4 :). We'll see!

I was 30 with DD. I feel so much better now that I am in the biggest section! There are so many young (18-20 yo) parents around me that I was feeling very old having my first at 30! Now I am feeling more "normal" :bighand: I work with a lady who will be a grandma at 35! I can't even imagine.

I work with a lady who will be a grandma at 35! I can't even imagine.

I know what you mean! My cousin is just a few months older than me. She married at 18 and had 3 kids very young. Her kids are all grown and her she is waiting for the arrival of her SECOND grandchild. When her oldest was pg with the first grandchild, I was in BRU shopping for something for DD. I ran into my cousin who was there buying furniture for her grandbaby - that was a really weird experience for me! Talk about feeling old - this cousin and I grew up together and played together a lot when we were little. Our lives took completely different directions - lol!

I was 39.5yo when DD was born. She was my first, DH's third. DH was 41 years 8 months when DD was born. So, we have one in preK and a freshman in college. We wanted to have one earlier so we could possibly have 2. I was 35 when we married. I had to wait a year after having surgery, then it took 8 months for us to get pg. So, we will just have DD - I'm too old (and too tired) at 44 to have another. No offense to those of you over 40 who will have more , *I* just can't do it.

Yeah, I was the 2nd youngest Mom in DD2's preschool class, and for many of the parents the preschool kid was their older or only child. There's definitely a solid 5+ year age difference btw me and most of my local Mom friends.

Yup - same things happens to me! I married my college sweetheart a year after graduating (I was 22) and then had DD1 a little over 2 years later (I was 24, almost 25).
