I have a 3.5 year old, and another due in Feb. I had a regular messenger diaper bag for her when she was a baby because I took her to day care. I can't reuse it because it has her name monogrammed on the front. Besides I like it well enough, but I am sure that better products are one the market 4 years later!

I got a Nestle Good Start diaper bag backpack as well. I used that more as she got older. I liked not having to wear it like a purse (purse straps fall off my shoulders all the time) and that I could strap it on, bend down, etc and it stay put.

So this time around I have a Skip Hop Studio Tote in mind - mainly because of the reviews (I haven't seen one in person yet). But lately I have been rethinking the diaper bag backpack idea. Or possibly a large messenger that can go across the body (so straps falling off the shoulder isn't an issue there either)

Anyone use them? I will most likely be staying home for the first year this time, so I have a little different criteria this time around. I need something that:
1. Will be able to hold enough for the baby as well as sippy cups, extra clothes, toys for my older daughter as well.
2. I don't want a suitcase on my back.
3. I don't want to spend a fortune. (~$100 or less)
4. Prints or solids would work - I am more concerned about functionality than style (but boring black is...well...boring).
5. Need it to hold up, quality is important
6. Won't carry a purse so it needs to be able to hold my wallet, keys, etc on outings.
7. MAJOR plus if it can strap onto a stroller (will most likely be using my Baby Jogger City Classic - my other stroller is a Baby Planet umbrella-type stroller)

Looking back, these are a lot of criteria!! Is there a diaper bag backpack or good messenger bag that would work for me? What are your suggestions?

My favorite backpacks are Baby Sherpas (Sherpa (http://www.babysherpabackpacks.com/baby-sherpa-diaper-backpack/) and the Shorthaul (http://www.babysherpabackpacks.com/baby-sherpa-shorthaul/)). They worked great for 2 kids with diapers and are still used now that they are long out of dipes. We deal with food allergies, so having the food section has been awesome!!! They are super comfy to wear, even fully loaded. They are not super stylish (black, royal or camo). To attach them to a stroller you can buy universal straps and attach them, buy velcro wrap straps (hardware stores sell these for a few dollars), or clip the chest clip on.

Some others to check out would be the Lands End diaper bag backpack, the SkipHop Via Backpack, the Outside Baby Cooler Backpack, the Dadgear/Daisygear backpack, and maybe even the Vera Bradley Large Backpack (check out their sale colors if the price is too high, remember that it wouldn't come with a changing pad though).

With two or more little ones under the age of 5, yup, the backpack diaper bag is the way to go. My fav is the Vera Bradley large backpack. It's very light, b/c it is fabric, it's washable, and it's also not boring looking. My kids do not stay by my side, so I need both hands free, and a backpack diaper bag is pretty much the only way to go. Sling style diaper bags are nice, but I find that I constantly have to readjust the bag (travels forward), to keep it by my hip and bending down sucks with a messenger style bag.

My friend who has had more diaper bags than she'd like to admit (at least 5 for 3 kids) says that her go to for when she really needs one now is her Kate Spade backpack, the first diaper bag she ever bought. I don't know if they still make them or not. JuJu Be has a nice diaper backpack too. That's what I am thinking of getting if I don't like the Vera Bradley prints that are out next spring.

JuJu Be has a nice diaper backpack too.

I love my JuJuBe BeRightBa k. It is bulky and heavy but the organization is amazing ans the prints are super cute. It's also really comfortable. And has the stroller clips. You may be able to get one for $100 used at the Pink Room or using bing cashback at ebags.
