I'm looking for a bible for my 6 year old. He's really into bible stories right now. He goes to a Christian based school and Christian Education is one of his favorite classes. What would be the best for his age range? I looked on Amazon but there are so many choices it is overwhelming.

I love the Jesus Story Book Bible. I think they just released a new "deluxe" version too.

We're still looking for one for DS1 but my friend said this one was a big hit with her kids.

It's in comic book format.

The classic choice for Bible stories in the Christian circles I grew up in (has been around since before I was little and DS was given one at baptism -- has a great track record) is The Child's Story Bible by Catherine F. Vos. http://www.amazon.com/Childs-Story-Bible-Catherine-Vos/dp/0802850111/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1257625521&sr=8-1 It has occasional illustrations, but is mostly text. Covers all the basic (and some more rare) Bible stories... divided into 'chapters' (each ~2 pages long text) for each story. 110 in the 'Old Testament', and 92 in the 'New Testament'. Very easy to understand, (not simplistic like a board book one would be) but includes the full stories and details. You will be able to see a page of the text if you sign in with your Amazon account... this link might work: http://www.amazon.com/reader/0802850111?_encoding=UTF8&page=random#reader_0802850111

If you want an actual full Bible, the Adventure Bible mentioned by the pp is a great choice. (it is an actual Bible with occasional illustrations and diagrams -- full Bible text -- it may be a little beyond a 6 yr old) http://www.amazon.com/Adventure-Bible-NIV-Larry-Richards/dp/0310715431/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1257626676&sr=8-1

i will second the Jesus Storybook Bible. the stories are beautifully written to tell the whole narrative of the Bible story. my kids find is very compelling. and, the illustrations i think are very creative and artistic.

I like the Jesus Storybook Bible, though I have a couple minor issues with some of the deviations from the Bible. The pictures are really great though, and I like the idea of it (that everything in the Bible is pointing to Jesus).

Our standby right now is the Beginner's Bible, but I know DD will outgrow it by 6, so maybe not a great choice for your DS. I am intrigued by the Veggie Tales Bible, it's rather new so I haven't gotten to look at it yet. I had the Adventure Bible in NIV as a kid (actually I went through a few of them) and I loved it. I think we may look for something in the NLT when we get DD's first "real" Bible, but otherwise we'd go with NIV.

If it is really important to you that it stays true to the Bible, I'd suggest going to a Christian bookstore sometime by yourself and looking through the ones you are interested in. We've been surprised by what some of them leave out. DD was given one that stopped at the crucifixion, with no mention at all of the Resurrection. That was a pretty major omission, IMO.
