Playsilk dyeing question

I ordered the play silks I'm slowly dyeing them. I bought red, yellow and blue wilton icing dye. I dyed the yellow and turned out very bright (which is great DS's favorite color is bright yellow:thumbsup:). I dyed the the red and it turned out salmon. I kept putting in dye hoping it would become a nice bright red but it just turn in to a deeper shade of salmon. I want a very red scarf (think superman cape) is this possible? Would I get a better red from koolaid? Any advice would be appreciated.

Dharma has a lovely (massive) section on dyeing. Maybe you could check there to see if there is a different dye that would turn out more red on silk. The dye colors apparently bind differentially to silk, so the color on the container might not be the color you get in dyeing.
