DS Lite vs DSi

My niece almost 8 is not sure which she wants either a DS or DSi. Can anyone tell me the differences and which they would recommend.

I'd go with the ds lite because you can play Game Boy games on it, which you can get for cheap used and will allow for all sorts of fun play of older games.

I have heard the i has a shorter battery life and all the extras it has aren't that great. You'd be better off buying a lite and a camera, for example, if you wanted good quality.
