Putting my own DVDs on iTouch..how?

I understand I have to convert the movie somehow but I am wondering if anyone has done this successfully with a free software download. I usually stick with downloads available through Cnet.

I need to know this too! Plus, is there a way to store purchased movies and shows plus my own uploaded movies on my external hard drive? I don't have the space to store everything on my computer's hard drive. Thanks!
