Can anyone tell me the difference between Gap's "petite" and "ankle regular" fits? Also, which do you think would be best for me? I'm 5-3.5 and 120 lbs. I usually wear flat shoes (no heels). Thank you!:)

I am 5' 2" and have the 'ankle' version that are great, but i haven't tried gap petites. In most brands, petites are too short in the stride for me. Hopefully, someone else will have tried both!

Yes I can. The ankle is just that, regular cut pants with a shorter inseam. Usually 30". The petite is an actual petite cut with a 29" inseam. I can't wear Gap or ON petite as a result. I need a 30" inseam for flats (I'm 5'2", 118). The ankle version works for me sometimes but not always. Most of the time I need the shorter rise. I find that I need a size 4 for regular ankle and a size 6 petite. Same for JCrew but JCrew inseams are longer on both types of pants.
You are taller than me so I'd stay away from Gap/ON petite. BR has at least 30" inseam on petite sizes.

That's funny. I am also 5'2", and I bought Gap Ankle for years and years. Recently, I'm finding them borderline too long, unless I'm wearing higher shoes. In fact, the Gap salespeople say that all of the jeans have been lengthened in recent years (huh?).

I love the Gap ankle size - I think they fit perfectly if you are around 5'4" or 5'5".

according to their website the inseam is the same at 30" for most jeans, 29 1/2" for real straight and 29" for the always skinny, the difference is in the waist, hip, and thigh measurements. http://www.gap.com/browse/sizeChart.do?cid=49373

I think it depends on where you carry your height. I'm 5' 2.5" and the ankle fit me well for flats. If I was any taller, they probably would not. I have a short torso, and that's where I lose my height. My sister is 5' 5" and I can wear her pants without rolling up the legs.
