hi there

my DS will be 9 months a few days after christmas

need some suggestions for toys big & small that will be appropriate and fun through the next few months...say 9 months through 15 months?

we live in an apartment, so space is a bit limited, but i realize that some sort of activity table is one thing, right?

thanks!

DS was about that age for his first Christmas.

I remember doing things like: (some of these are things to grow into)
Big knob puzzle (melissa and doug) with just 3 shapes
CDs
Playsilks
musical instruments
ring stack toy
nice set of crayons

other things I've given DD, etc. around that age:
good quality push toy for walking with (Radio Flyer walker wagon and the Haba push toy are $$ but my two personal favorites because they are super stable)
Haba ball track (not the marble sized one...this one: http://www.amazon.com/Ball-Track-Rolln-Roll/dp/B0002HYFF2 )

You can always go w/ practical stuff you'll use anyway for stockings, etc like CA Baby body wash, a nice sippy cup if you need one (Klean Kanteen is our fav), maybe some babylegs or new socks, soft-soled shoes like Robeez or similar, etc.

We never had an activity table but 9 months would be a great age for one.

My DS was 7 months last Christmas - here were some of the hits:

-stacking cups - these are a must! These were his favorite for months and he still plays with them. He also loves his stacking/nesting boxes so that's another option.
-ring stacker
-shape sorter - of course it took him a while to actually sort the shapes but he still plays with this today and his play has changed as he has gotten older.
-oball
-leapfrog spinning alphabet zoo - still gets some play
-FP laugh and learn activity table

We have limited space and none of these toys take up too much room. HTH!

DS just turned one and received the VTech blender. The recommended age is 9m+. He really enjoys it and I think it will grow with him. It is pretty compact. It does play music, but it has an on/off switch.

I agree with the stacking cups. DS has a small set that he has played with for quite some time but there are some great ones that are larger.

I also like the idea of sippy cups and other practical things.

We sit by him in case he flops to the side, but he loves to sit in them and pushes himself forward little by little. It is super cute.

Laugh and Learn Home is great.

The Leapfrog Learning Table is good. If he's not standing, you can leave the legs off and have it on the floor.

My guys are 10 months...so I guess I'm looking for similar type things for Christmas.

I think it depends on where you kiddo is mobility wise on what he will like. My boys have been using the leap frog table, and FP Go and Crawl musical jungle since they were about 7 months. They still play with them, but if your guy has been standing a while already I wouldn't spend a lot on these. But I do think some sort of a table is a must.
The boys love the haba walker wagon. I was hesitant to pay that much, but it is so much nicer than the plastic walking toy I had with my oldest. I'm really happy with it.
The boys also love playing in a radio flyer wagon.

Balls, (we like the bumpy kind and o-balls) stacking cups, bath toys, and trucks (we like viking brand, the medium size) are all hits right now. My boys having been using a ring sorter for a while (but still can't stack), enjoy musical instruments (bells, tapping sticks, sand blocks), but puzzles and crayons are a long way off for them.

Because I have an older child they have had access to some of these toys for a while. :)

My boys will also be getting some sort of toddler chair. They love, crawling in and out of the baby bouncy seats.
I will be pulling the FP laugh and learn home out of the attic and some little people sets around 12 months. My oldest also really liked this at about a year.

Hope that helps some :)

Jack is 13 months and he loves anything with balls.

This music on this is a little annoying but he LOVES it. DS3 also had one also http://www.amazon.com/Hasbro-Playskool-Busy-Ball-Popper/dp/B00007G39I/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1258291058&sr=1-8

he got this for his birthday and giggles everytime it says his name

different version of theses http://www.amazon.com/Edushape-See-Me-Sensory-Balls-Assorted/dp/B001AMK6G0/ref=sr_1_48?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1258291162&sr=1-48

BIG hit since about 9 months http://www.amazon.com/Hasbro-09406-Playskool-Ball-Tivity-Center/dp/B0015ZV8R8/ref=sr_1_94?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1258291317&sr=1-94

We have a older version of this. Jack LOVES to drop balls into it and make the music start
http://www.amazon.com/Fisher-Price-Ocean-Wonders-Musical-Fishbowl/dp/B000W3VCAC/ref=sr_1_136?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1258291383&sr=1-136

Jack is just getting into cars we have some of these.. they are nice for little hands http://www.amazon.com/Viking-Toy-15-2dpc-2e-Chubbies-Bucket/dp/B0006OHN7I/ref=sr_1_252?ie=UTF8&s=toys-and-games&qid=1258291534&sr=1-252

Melissa and Doug band in a box is fun too.

Jack has NO interest in little people or riding toys yet. He likes to push things so you may want to look for a sturdy push item we have a radio flyer walker wagon.
