So do you guys recommend a guidebook? Someone mentioned to me:

Unofficial Guidebook:
http://www.amazon.com/Unofficial-Guide-Disney-World-Guides/dp/0470460261

Or Unofficial WITH kids:
http://www.amazon.com/Unofficial-Guide-Disney-World-Guides/dp/0470497750/ref=ntt_at_ep_dpi_2

I browsed at Borders and the first (non-kid) one was so huge! The kid one did have some negative reviews (i.e. too much on "how to parent" vs Disney).

Any thoughts or is there something else I should consider? Do people carry the book with them at the park or make notes or what?

TIA!

I have read about this guy...and a review from someone who used his advice and tips and says it was spot on. I haven't been to Disney with kids, but next time I go I plan to use it...

We used Tourguide Mike for our trip earlier this month...it was really the only guide I used. Really useful pointers and helped set my expectations for the trip so that we were able to enjoy it fully.

Also, when you sign up, you have access to his discussion boards which are WAY less overwhelming than Disboards.com. And you get a private forum just for your vacation month. There are a number of people on there who are extremely knowledgeable about Disney.

FWIW, I took the Unofficial Guide out of the library shortly before my trip. It was the 2007 version, but I was really only looking for general info at that point. There are a few useful items, but it mostly aligns with TGM. If it's available at your library, one thing I liked in it was the "scare factor" of all the rides...helped me figure out which ones would be appropriate for DD. I don't think TGM is so good on that subject.
