I have been really happy with this one: http://www.amazon.com/Sony-DVP-FX820-8-Inch-Portable-Player/dp/B00139L57Y/ref=sr_1_19?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1258329206&sr=8-19
It is an older model so I found it on clearance at BRU. Amazon says up to 6 hours battery life, and I think that is correct, it runs for a LONG time. I think the picture and sound are very good too. I've loved having it, I use it when I'm doing housework and to take in the car.

You can also buy a separate, external battery. One of our best purchases ever.

I really like my Sony one. It lasts 4-6 hrs for sure. It was the basic model at Target and has held up pretty well for 2 years of airplanes etc.

We have a Sony too, but Panasonic makes one that lasts like 10-12 hours. Sony was prettier which is why we got it. 4-6 hours was plenty for us.

Was it a brand specific battery? Where did you find it?

OP, our Sony has a 5 hour battery life (which is not-so-coincidentally the length of most of our flights to see my family). It wasn't cheap, though, at $150
