I saw it on the 6 yo thread list. I looked it up on Amazon and it looks cool. Any reviews? Would my 4.5 year old like to do it with his dad or me?
TIA!

There's lots of talk about this on the Around the House forum. DS1 has it and loves it; he got it for his 6th birthday. A 4.5yo might need some help but would quickly grow into it.

DS got it around 4.5 because I got a good deal on it. We got a bigger set since we homeschool and I'll eventually have two kids using it. DS has been into electronics, robotics, etc. for a while, so at 4.5 he was already interested in it with adult help. He's 5.5 and can do some projects independently. We recently added the rover (about 3 months ago?) and he enjoyed that too, but it is less open-ended so I wouldn't recommend starting w/ the rover.

Which one would be a good starter set and where do you find the best price?

We got the SC-100 as a starter set, but now are looking to upgrade just a few months later. If you can swing the price, the SC-300 is where I would start. I posted on the other thread, but also look at the SC-300R, which includes the student manual and a plastic storage case. I have seen it for around $75-99 shipped. If you really don't want to spend much, though, the SC-100 (no student manual or case) is around $24 on Amazon and eligible for super saver shipping (look for the one sold by Amazon), the SC-300 (no student manual or case) is around $38.

Highly recommended! DS has loved his for 5+ years (various sets now).
