DS1 is almost 3, so I don't know if he is still too young. We have a 9 month old as well, so that complicates things. Should I hold off until DS2 is old enough to play with it as well?

Depends on the marble run
I got DS the Discovery Toys Castle Marbleworks at 18 months and he started playing with it immediately.
I know our 4 year olds (at church) used to have a lot of fun with a plastic marble run with traditional marbles -- whether you should hold off with a 9 month old depends on how good you/the older child are at picking up/keeping smaller parts off the floor. Or if there is a place to set it up that is quarantined from the younger child.
The Marbleworks one above looks very cool. This one by Haba looks nice as well but $$: http://www.blueberryforest.com/selecta_toys/selecta-variola-ball-track.htm
We bought the Quadrilla Vortex marble run for DS (5.5 at the time) and it is still slightly over his head. :( This was supposed to be a toy that stays in his room but 2yo DD always manages to find the marbles and the little pieces seem to go missing into the far depths of his room. So...b/c your DC is only 3, I'd go with a fun chunky crafty ball run that is safe for both of your kids, then go into the plastic marble runs later. Haba also makes this one but it still requires a marble, which is obvioulsy a choking hazard for your little one, but at least the track is a littl easier for your older DC to use: http://www.blueberryforest.com/heirloom_wooden_blocks/haba-ball-track-construction-set-marbles.htm
Good luck with the decision.

Love this one! I think that would be easier to keep track off while playing with both of them. I will think it over and discuss with DH. Thanks!
