Would you recommend WEdgits for a 5 1/2 year old or is the toy too young? How much use does it get and until what age?

DS1 got a set last year when he was 5 1/2 and he's still playing with them a year later.

Is there a particular set that is more appropriate for this age group?

We have the translucent deluxe set (30 pieces) but any of the more advanced bigger sets should be good.

DD is 7 on Saturday and has the pink set nad purple set and her building and creations have just got more advanced with age, she still likes them now and we've had them for 2 years. She uses the little pieces to play treasure games, so I think 5.5 would still be OK. It is nice to have 2 sets to do more with though. I got them from that big Amazon sale.

Start with the Starter Set of some sort -- they have one piece (the big green rhombus) that none of the other sets have

Then get the travel deluxe set. Or the junior set. Or really, anything that interests your kid.

We really like the Wedgits TO GO set. It comes in a tackle box that is great for storage of that set. It really isn't big enough to hold multiple sets.

They also sell a card pack with ideas(and pictures) and tips on how to build more complex things. I would suggest a bigger set for a kid this age.
