What would you give? I realize she won't know that it's even Christmas, but I'm still going to wrap up a few presents for her. She'll be 5.5 months on Christmas so I want to get her some good 6 month old toys (that I would be buying even if it wasn't Christmas). What are some good toys for that age? What are your favorites? I want to get her 1 bigger item (her swing and gymini are her big items at the moment), but I'm not sure what that would be for that age. I'm a FTM.

What else do you recommend? I have TONS of books for her (I used to teach school, so have a lot). And hopefully one day she'll let me hold her on my lap so I can actually read them to her! Right now she always wants us moving! What are some other things that we'll be wanting in the next few months?

Here is a good online site for toys, especially Haba toys:

I would also consider getting a keepsake ornament for her?

My dd and dn2 also loved the cardbord stacking blocks when they were a little older than 6 months. :)

I think the Leap Frog sound and music table would be fun because in no time she'll be pulling to a stand and can play with it.

Along those lines, a push cart like the Haba or Radio Flyer ones are really popular.

Though many find it annoying, my ds2 enjoys the Playskool Busy Basics' Ball-tivity center:

This is another fun cause and effect toy:

Nesting blocks, stacking cups, and music are other things to consider. Also, some toys that mount on to the rails of the crib are very popular with my little guy (yes, he still sleeps fine with toys in there- I like them b/c he can play himself to sleep or play when he gets up!). The Fisher Price rainforest one is good.

Don't forget to check over on Etsy too!

-Nice teething toys
-Agree w/ the PP that a sturdy push toy/walker wagon is nice to have (how soon this is useful will depend on how your DC progresses w/ gross motor skills, but IMO it is a great toy to have)
-useful stuff to wrap up like babylegs, hair clips/accessories, a nice sippy cup, body wash for the tub...(eta: soft soled shoes like Robeez to use in a few months)
-Kid music CDs (will be useful for years)
-one of the first things DS crawled for at 8 months was the Ikea stacking cups (not sure if they still sell these but they were 2 or 3 bucks at the time).

yeah-- ikea still has those stacking cups, and they are still really cup :) i think about getting some for the bath all the time, but we have stuff like that.

i second the "learn and groove" table. my child liked that from 5 months on... i have pictures of her "standing" by it at that age.

Thanks for all the ideas! It really got me excited to buy her Christmas presents. There are so many things I want to get her now!

And I really liked the idea of getting her a keepsake ornament. I never would have thought of that, but I'm def going to do this. Do you use a "Baby's First Christmas" ornament or just find one you really like to give to her?

And can someone please post a pict. or link of what a push cart/toy is? I know a few of your mentioned this would be good to have, but what exactly are they? I tried searching and couldn't figure out if I was looking at the right thing. Thanks

There are tons of suggestions in this stickied post (http://www.windsorpeak.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=325433) in the Around the House forum. :wink2:

You're getting great gift suggestions, but I actually want to encourage you about how Christmas could be (since you're getting excited anyway!)

My DD was 6 1/2 months last Christmas, and I was surprised. I set her down in front of the tree, and she immediately turned over, crawled to the presents and started unwrapping one. She loved unwrapping presents, and she liked any gift with a tag (i.e. footed pajamas were just as big a hit as the books, which she loves, and the stacking toys.)

So have fun with your new LO!

As far as the ornament, I chose a "Baby's First Christmas" one, but the one I love the most is the one I made for my mom using a picture I took of DD in a Santa hat and dress asleep in front of the Christmas tree a couple of days before Christmas. I just put it in an "ornament" picture frame that you can find anywhere that sells Christmas stuff. Mom must have liked it too; the other ornaments are all packed away, but that ornament has been hanging on the table lamp by her chair all year. I need to make another for my tree! (But I kind of doubt that DD will want one of her own.)

Haba push cart:

Radio Flyer:

Ooh, this Plan one looks really nice:

(I admit, I couldn't swallow those prices and didn't feel like searching for deals so we have a plastic one that has been great! It's from ds1 so they likely don't make it anymore. It was a Duplo one.)

The Plan one looks a lot like the M&D alligator one, and was too hard for DS1 to push and control until he could already walk pretty well. The RF one, though, is AWESOME!
