I have been meaning to get new wine glasses for AGES! I was recently at a wine tasting and the glass was so great but I have no idea what it was. I love merlots but want a glass that is okay for other types of reds as well. Does anyone have a favourite brand/glass? They can be so expensive that I want to be sure I have pick the right one.

We have a few Riedel glasses that we save for special occasions and special bottles. :)

But Crate&Barrel has some that are nice and not too expensive. We have these and like them:

I really like the Riedel glasses that are made for Target http://www.target.com/Riedel-Vivant-Red-Wine-Glasses/dp/B000B5N1NM/sr=1-6/qid=1258491096/ref=sr_1_6/188-1170753-8369249?ie=UTF8&search-alias=tgt-index&frombrowse=0&index=target&rh=k%3Ariedel&page=1 They make ones intended for individual wines, but also a generic "red wine" glass. That's what I have. I think they look and feel a lot more expensive than they really are.

I love the Mikasa Cheers and Cheers Too sets. I have the wine globlets, white wine glasses, and highball glasses. I like how each glass has a different design so you know which glass is yours. I get many compliments on them when I have company over.

We destroy ours so we always buy IKEA! So many broken wine glasses over the years I don't want to invest in really good ones! IKEA glasses are great though.

Oh, great thread. We have almost none left and I have to get new ones before Thanksgiving. We've cut back this year and I've been pregnant so we've gotten by with the maybe three glass ones and four plastic outdoor ones we have left.

Same here. All our nice wine glasses have been destroyed by, well, drinking too much wine! The Ikea glasses have survived, though, so that's what I stick to. That way, I can enjoy the wine without worrying about breaking the glasses.

We use Spiegalau. We have a variety of them, depending on the type of wine, but I just spotted these on Amazon, which seem to be good for various types: http://www.amazon.com/Spiegelau-Vino-Grande-Wine-Glasses/dp/B00004SUI6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1258504100&sr=1-1

They are a level below the quality of Riedel, but are excellent, nonetheless.

If you are prone to breaking glasses, I would go with Ikea in a heartbeat (that's what we use for champagne glasses since we so rarely drink it).

I have to second Crate & Barrel: we've had the Gala wine glasses for 8 years & they've survived well.

I've really likes the "party" pack of Target stemware. It's $14 a box for 12. They are nice, but not SOOOO nice that you cry if you break one.
