I know I will find the answer here. :)

My ds is having a Curious George themed birthday party. I want to get him a cake with Curious George but have flipped through the books in several grocery stores and none of them have that theme. I've heard of the thing they can do where they copy an image from a plate or a napkin and put that on the cake, but I don't know where to get that done. Does anyone know of any chain grocery stores that do that? Or any other suggestions?

TIA!

You could buy a Curious George cake topper (check a party store or online) and have the grocery store do a plain sheet cake. I had a local bakery do the scan an image thing, you could just call around. But the picture I had scanned wasn't copyrighted--so I don't know if you'd run into trouble with that or not.

Like PP suggested, you can order a plain sheet cake from a grocery store and put an edible cake topper (made with sugar) on the cake yourself. You can search ebay using the words "edible Curious George cake topper." The seller can personalize for you.

I did this with DD's birthday cake when she turned 3. She is allergic to eggs so I couldn't order a cake from a store. I ended up making a cake myself (well it's basically several layers of ice cream.) Then I put a cake topper on it. The cake topper contained no allergens so it was safe for DD.

HTHs.

You can make one. I did. I used a plain round cake and iced it. Then, I printed out a picture of Curious George.

Put waxed paper on top of the printed paper. Using Wilton piping gel to pipe on all the lines of Curious George onto the waxed paper.

Take the waxed paper and carefully set it, gel side down, on your cake. Tap it lightly to transfer the gel to the cake. It's clear, but you'll be able to see it.

Use a star tip to fill in the image with the colors.

It's really not hard at all.

Kris, that cake looks adorable!! I don't know though, it doesn't look that easy! But it might be worth a try. I'll have to think about it. Thank you all for your suggestions. I've been on eBay and have found some good options. I had no idea about those edible cake toppers. Very cool.

Thanks.

Stars are pretty easy to do. Just practice a bit to get them even. Then, it's just a matter of filling in the outline. I did outline in black with a piping tip, but it's really not hard.

We did the cupcakes 2 years ago.

For J's first birthday she made 2 yellow hats made out of cake, a big and a small. J shares the day with Daddy, so the cakes were labled in script to say "Curious J" and "Curious C". It was really cute.

Can you grocery scan in pictures? Scan in a GC picture, or have a solid cake and write in red script "Curious DC".

We had a Curious George ("Georgie!") party when DS turned 2. I took the CG napkin to Dairy Queen and they made the image on top of one of their ice cream cakes. It was beautiful and everyone loved it!! If I remember correctly I THINK it was $24.99.

Good luck!

I'm surprised they don't have CG cake toppers... my DS had one for his 1st birthday (I guess that was 4 years ago though).

Martha stewart has a great monkey cake

You can make monkey cupcakes. My neighbor made some with brown M&M's for eyes and nilla wafers in half for ears and mouth I think it was.

Here is a CG cake topper... just have the bakery do a jungle scene on the sheet cake

I think you should just offer to fly Kris in for a day or two and have her make the cake!! I just showed it to my son who loves George. He thinks it's awesome!
