This style of skirt was pretty popular around here in the summer:

Is anyone wearing it now with tights? I'm in New England so tightless is not an option. And if so, what shoes - ballet flats, tall boots, slip-on wedge kinda like this (From TJMaxx, NOT GH) with a little ruffle at the toe http://www.garnethill.com/jump.jsp?itemID=14066&itemType=PRODUCT&path=1%2C2%2C4477%2C7490%2C8895&iProductID=14066

For some reason I consider those warm weather skirts only. They probably would be just fine with tights and ballet flats.

I lived in those skirts all summer. We'll ignore the part where DH called them my "Amish woman" skirts (no disrespect to ANY one who is Amish - I respect their modesty and frankly do not think any true Amish woman would wear something that short, but anyway...). I have been on a quest for some winter dresses, but realized last weekend that I can not nurse my 1yoDD in most dresses, so I have been looking for some skirts too. I just got this skirt from Athleta with the Gap F&F discount, and really like it.

I did wear the skirt you posted a few weeks ago with lighter weight opaque tights (still tights, not hose) and flats, with a light weight sweater, but I did feel a bit weird. I too think of them as summer weight skirts. I think for the fall/winter you'd want something heavier, like corduroy or wool.

ETA I wear my denim skirts in the winter a lot too. I wore one this week with these grey tall boots from Target

a black turtleneck sweater, and my Smartwool striped knee socks.

I wouldn't wear that type of skirt in the fall/winter months. It's too lightweight and summery looking. I think, too, that with tights, the skirt would stick to your legs and ride up/get stuck.

I have that skirt from Athleta, too, in olive green and LOVE it. I just wore it yesterday with a black turtleneck and black wedge heel boots and a scarf. You need corduroy or denim for the colder weather.

Y'know, you all posted the reasons I was thinking, but didn't know if I was crazy since ON still has it on there - although w/flip flops. I definitely thought it was too summery and would cling to tights!! I usually do a jean skirt but was looking for options already in my closet - not that I'm against buying, LOL.

That Athleta skirt is way cute, love the Huckleberry (purple) color but it's not in my size. :(

Twoboos, I would totally wear that kind of skirt with tights all year round! It looks super-comfy. Of course I live in CA and I am pregnant so fold-over stuff is what I live in! But I would wear it non-pregnant too.

Maybe wear with a long sweater to cover the foldover area? I'd say go for it!

Regarding the Athleta skirt, it does look very cute. Do you think it would work in a business casual workplace if the rest of the outfit was dressy, with tall boots and tights?

I was thinking of this thread today b/c our music class teacher was wearing the same kind of skirt with tights. Brown skirt, brown tights, & a bright color sweater on top. It looked ok to me.

I didn't see what kind of shoes b/c shoes are off in music class! ;)
