I'm looking for a nice set of magnetic letters for my DC. Any suggestions out there? TIA.

i can offer you a million suggestions. i would stick with lowercase.

i teach reading and we buy ours from abcstuff.com

they have giant ones that are about 3"tall, super cool. i bought a set of those for ds.

i also have some foam ones from there that i really love to teach with. they are particularly nice b/c the stick letters have nice pronounced sticks. ie, the n and h are very easy to discriminate between (something tricky for younger kiddos and at risk learners like i teach).

the foam type letters are great b/c they have magnetic on the back of the whole letter, not just a magnet chip on one part.

We have a Melissa and Doug set that includes upper and lower case.

We started with the large sized lower case letters from Lakeshore Learning. IIRC, they were around $9.

We only recently added the uppercase. (after about 4,000 readings of CHickaChickaBoomBoom and a request reenact it)

i'm curious why you all started with lower case letters? we have the fridge phonics dealy, and it's uppercase, and i think the other magnet letters i have are uppercase too. now i feel like a bad mom! :) (of course i'm pretty sure my child learned the upper case letters from watching super why, and not all our reading to her or her alphabet "toys!")

Not a reading expert, but most letters kids encounter in text are lower case, kwim?

I like this set. It can be used in alternative ways as well. http://theadventuresofbear.blogspot.com/2009/11/magnetic-letters.html
