We already have a stacking ring toy, but are looking to add a nesting toy to the collection. Any suggestions? Nesting cups or nesting cubes. Is one better than the other, plastic vs. wooden... Is anyone out there particularly thrilled with what they own?

I like the stacking/nesting boxes we have from Eeboo. They are cardboard but are pretty durable unless you have a chewer, and are tall once stacked. Pretty illustrations too.

It's not a nesting toy but a stacking one...but it is simply awesome. The magnets inside rotate so baby can stack them even if a piece is upside-down.

Grimm's Spiel und Holz hands down! (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_0_9?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=grimms+spiel+%26+holz&sprefix=grimms+sp)

Beautiful colors, safe, made in Germany. What more could you want?:wink2:

We have the Ikea MULA nesting/stacking cups, and we LOVE them. In fact we gave them out as favors at DS's birthday party and at least 4 of the other moms have commented to me how much their kids love them.
They also have interesting patterns and holes so they are great fun in the bath. They are our go-to travel toy because they are so compact with so many possibilities.

Depends on the age...for babies/young toddlers I LOVE the Ikea Mula nesting cups mentioned above. The cups have holes in different places, so they are great for the bath. My older son (3) has really started to get into some of the nesting stuff mentioned above from Grimm's Spiel und Holz. Today he spent a lot of time "wrapping" presents for me using 2 different sizes of the nesting boxes.

My favorite are the Caterpillar Spillars. About $6 and lots of longevity.

I second this suggestion!

I bought the extra large rainbow stacker 4 years ago and it still gets incoporated into playing and building by my 5 and 6yo sons on a weekly basis. Other than playsilks, I don't think we own another toy that has had that kind of open ended application and staying power.

I just got some Melissa & Doug cardboard nesting blocks from Kohl's during the recent sale. My DS always played with them at the MW's office.

We :love-retry: Spiel und Holz products too :)

The wooden bowls could be used later for play in a play kitchen, etc. We don't own the wooden bowls but have a few other S&H products that are beautiful.

If you want to go inexpensive, when DS was a little guy he loved the Ikea stacking cups, and at the time (this was a few years ago) they were under $3 I think. The first thing he crawled for was the top most cup...I think you could spin it somehow and he would crawl to get it. He loved those things.
