I ask, b/c I realized after talking to a few friends that a lot of ppl have, "dinner" around 2-3 pm. I'm thinking about doing that this yr (I'm hosting as usual), b/c it will be less of a rush to have it earlier and I know mil will be a PITA if I don't serve dinner early (she is the freak who always wants to eat by 3pm when nobody else is hungry yet).

noon for lunch. My kids (and me too, I get cranky) would be jumping off the wall if I didn't serve the meal until 2pm and giving them a snack or other meal would guarantee they wouldn't have an appetite later on. So we eat by noon and everyone is snoozing on the couch by 1pm LOL.

When I was growing up, my grandma always expected us around 4 pm. and I am getting an insight into why, now that we've got DS to contend with. It works best for us if we ask our guests to arrive at 4, and serve at 5 (which is DS" dinnertime). If I had older kids with a later dinner I'd adjust for that. I can also see where a lunchtime "dinner" would work.

C99 (Caroline) asked this a few weeks back and there were lots of responses if you do a search.

For us around 4pm - that way I'm not up at the crack of dawn or rushing to get everything ready.

Around 4. I usually put out appetizers around 11 so by 4 everyone is hungry again!

4-5 because I don't want to have to wake up super early to get the turkey in.

We usually eat around 2pm. We get to my parents around noon, eat some appetizers, drink, talk, help with last minute prep, eat (!!!) and then relax, have dessert and watch the kids play together. We usually leave around 7.

This year it's 1:30, with a second round later in the evening at home I'm sure!

Other years it's more like 3 or 4.

This year, 5-6ish because my husband works till 4:30PM.

Sitting here waiting for guests to arrive and my husband to get home now. First time I get to sit down all day. Cooking a turkey, cranberries, sauce and stuffing and then cleaning the kitchen up so is is not a disaster after dinner with no other adult around and 2 boys underfoot was a "fun" challenge. Thankfully my friends are bringing the sides and I made the pies last night, late.
