I really want to see this movie, but I just don't know if I can stand to be THAT depressed. Is it uplifting or hopeful in the end? I don't expect every movie to be Blindside....I just can't take straight depressing movies. Any thoughts?

I won't be going to see it. May read Push though. It's rated R for child abuse and sexual assault (the main reason I didn't go see Slumdog Millionaire).

If you really want to know...here is how it ends http://www.themoviespoiler.com/Spoilers/prcious.html

I don't know if I could take it in a visual presentation that is running continuously. I think I would need to wait for the DVD so I could stop and start it. I loved the book however and do want to see it. The book, Push, is not uplifting and it does not gloss over the factors in Precious' life. I remember hearing the author talk about how a publisher pushed her to change the end of the book so that Precious lost a lot of weight and got a boyfriend and she (of course) refused.

I saw Slumdog and I covered my eyes during a few scenes, but that wasn't the WHOLE movie. It just seems like there are a lot of abuse scenes--but I don't know. I can handle it as part of a larger story, but not THE story. Yet, I think that is the story in this case.

What a stupid suggestion for a "happy" ending--losing weight and getting a boyfriend! I was just hoping for she moved out of her mom's house or she graduates or gets her GED and maybe finds an adult who is kind to her.
