DD & DS share a room and neither wants to move to their own room. I have been having a really hard time finding bedding that coordinates in my budget (which is next to nothing). I want something that is the same pattern but different colors. Their walls are light pastel green so I would like match it to that but we are considering re-painting so the wall color isn't super important. I was thinking a pink/green or pink/tan combo for DD and a blue/green or tan/green for DS.

I'm going to ask MIL to sew twin size duvet covers but I don't want to let her choose fabric. Since I know nothing about sewing I thought I'd ask you guys for fabric designers that might have cute (but not babyish) patterns in a wide variety of colors. And of course, where to get them cheap :)
TIA!

I got my girls coordinating duvet covers from Ikea. DD#1's is fucshia with light pink swirls and DD#2's is turquoise with light blue swirls. They don't share a room, but we thought they might down the road, so at least this way they would be able to keep their existing bedding. BTW, I highly doubt your MIL could make duvet covers for less than the Ikea ones. They are extremely reasonably priced. DD#1 has been using hers for nearly 3 yrs now and it still looks new.

FWIW, we also have Ikea comforters inside them and are very happy with them.

Thanks Melissa that sounds really cute and just what I'm looking for, I will check out Ikea for sure. Do you have a link by any chance? I always have such a hard time navigating their website for some reason and our Ikea is over an hour away. I'd hate to get there and see that they don't have what I want.

I would count on 30 - 40 per cover if you sew them with nice Amy Butler or Joel Dewberry fabric.

I second the IKEA idea, we are super happy with our IKEA bedspread in DD's room, she has the pink with elephants.

Not Melissa, but these ones look cute:

There are some matching curtains, rugs and fabric as well.

I tried to find them on their website, but couldn't. HOwever, I've tried to find them in the past and couldn't -- and they had lots of various colors (IIRC, they have red, blue, green, and black). I recall them being around $19Cdn (dollar is almost at par and Ikea prices seem to fluctuate somewhat with the dollar). They come with a pillow case, though I find those a bit itchy -- more for decoration than actual use, KWIM?

Huh, found it.

They are showing red, blue and black on the website. It definitely also comes in green (bright green and light green swirls) which is pretty too, though IMO if you paired it with the red/pink cover, it might look a bit Christmasy, KWIM? The red cover isn't really red, its more fuschia.

Also, the Ikea waterproof mattress cover seems really good. I had 2 of the Martha Stewart ones which are pretty expensive here (the gold * ones). The Ikea one is thin and terry cloth on one side, waterproof on the other. IIRC, it was only $20, which is pretty reasonable.

I also got sheer curtains at Ikea for DD#1's room, which is a princess theme. And the curtain rods for both girls' rooms are from there.

Oh, and their furniture is Ikea too (Hemnes twin bed in white, 3 drawer dresser, nightstand and short Billy bookcase -- all in white).

I should have shares, LOL. Seriously, though, we had previously purchased a pretty expensive super-cute bedroom set from Costco for DD#1 and had to return it (after DH assembled it, he was NOT happy) b/c it off-gassed for 6m and gave her horrible asthma. That set was around $2K. The Hemnes twin bed (frame), nightstand, three drawer dresser is around $600Cdn. Its not as cute, but it d/n give DD#1 asthma and still looks new 3y later.

If you want, I can try to take photos later -- DD#1 is pretty sick, so things are crazy here right now.
