We have been fans of the Perler iron beads for a long time. Moved on to Pixos next. The iron beads are still fun and easier for smaller fingers.

This is crafts, but not cutting/painting. My girls just spent hours yesterday with a Sculpey clay kit, making birds with names and personalities, a nest, worms, berries, a basket, then, apparently finally taking a break from the woodland theme, they made a few window ornaments. It has 12 colors of clay in bright, rich colors, can be molded and re-molded and then baked to harden it, after which it can be sanded or painted (although I don't know why you would). It would be great for Christmas ornaments.

I'm not sure why it was more exciting than Play doh - maybe because the clay was harder and the extra effort drew them in a bit, or maybe because the colors were easier to separate and re-work - but my parents and I all commented on how well and creatively they were playing. The baked items hardened fully overnight, and the girls were playing with their cooked figurines today too.

Our kit is a little different, but it's a lot like the one on the top right (basic colors, I think).

Oh, that also reminds me - shrinky dinks are apparently still around. Your daughter could get the cutting and coloring there, and it would be fun for Christmas ornaments.
