Dr. Oz and Dr. Roizen are telling me that I should look for things in plastic #2 or 4 if I want to reuse them. I thought 2 was not reusable. And I thought 5 was the "ideal". I can't remember the last time I saw a 4.

The link doesn't actually discuss this but I'll post it as reference

Thoughts?

Weird, that's contrary to what I've heard too. I can't remember other than 5 is best.

I didn't watch, but live TV means people sometimes misspeak. That may be what happened.

No, they had big graphics all made up for it. They had a whole bullet point list and that was one of the items on it.

#2, #4, and #5 CAN be reused, but the higher the number the thicker and therfore safer the plastic is--hence #5 is the best for continual reuse. #2 and #4 are used in Ziplock type bags.

Thanks. :) I don't know where I got that 2's were one-time use so this was helpful!

Yep. 5's the best - "food grade" because it is pretty stable, doesn't leach much, and can accept hot food.

Here's a good article - to see the info for each number, you have to click on the recycling number at the bottom.
