I did embroidered beach towels for first bday's for our playgroup. All of the bdays were May-Aug so that was a perfect gift. Everybody loved them. I would do the regular size towel.

Yep, I'd do the regular as well. I've not actually seen the mini's but the regular size are so nice and I never find myself having "too much" towel, IYKWIM.

totally did'nt need these, but how could i resist? in for 2. also, i totally recommend full size. small ones are just too darn small - only last for 6-9 months or so.

Got a wrap and a towel each for DS and DD, plus a wrap for my niece ("boys" because SIL is anti-pink). I definitely second and third the suggestion that you get the regular size regardless of the age of your kid; we used regular size PBK bath wraps for each of my kids from birth, and as the PP said, there's really no such thing as "too much towel."

substitute "68" for the first 2 numbers in the item # -- then search the website for that item again (with substitution). The item will come up as the sale price. Hope I described that well enough!

I decided not to chance it for the birthday party this weekend, but I planned ahead big-time for birthday parties to come in the spring/summer as well as my niece/nephew....I still haven't given my girls the cute monogrammed beach towels from the Company Kids deal back in August (tucked away for birthdays) but now they'll have matching beach wraps too. The wraps looked like they'd be cozy for after bath/shower. Like a "big kid" hooded towel. I just wish I'd seen the post about WS gift cards before placing my order. I didn't even think to use the one that's been in my wallet a while (sigh). Oh well, there are worse things.

Dumb question, but I don't know much about little boys and I'm wondering how long you think the 'boy fish' beach towel will be appropriate/ used by a boy. I ordered it (monogrammed) for my nephew who's 3.5, and I was thinking of giving him this as part of his Christmas present. Then I realized that I'm going to be $5 or $10 over our spending limit with his other present (I'd rather stick to the limit, esp. since I'm sure everyone else will). I can wait and give it to him for his bday in May, which is more fitting with the weather and everything (we're in the midwest). But if a 4 year old would think the towel is majorly uncool, then I should probably give it to him now. I didn't get him the shark one (though it was still available when I ordered) because I was worried he *might* be scared by it (certain things freak him out, I've heard) :wink2:.

I had the same thought about the boy fish towel. I went ahead and ordered one for my just turned 5 yo - because I think it is cute and I think he will too. He is not very into sharks or other predatory animals. He also doesn't really have a sense of what is cool or uncool yet - thank goodness! I did order the shark one for some older boy birthdays I'll have next year (6 & 7). I think it's really up to you!

Yeah, I don't know why they show that $6.50 on the one page, maybe they just didn't change the webpage since the free monogramming is only for 1 day, but if you continue through to checkout you'll see that you'll only be charged the $9.99 plus tax.

I just ordered three. One was backordered till Dec. 21st and one backordered till Feb. 22nd. Regardless of when they come, we'll use them :)

Some of them did show up as 9.99 and some as full price. I was able to use the 68 trick to get the sale price. Nice to get them with free monogramming and free shipping. What a steal! Thanks moms!

It's not really a "trick." The "68" deals, as I understand it, are deals that PBK makes available over the phone if you are calling in an order. No one's scamming PBK out of anything. You can just call and say that you understand that PBK is offering a lower price over the phone and that you'd like a price adjustment to that price. I have done it before in the past (w/ puffy treat bags 2 Halloweens ago) and they were perfectly nice about it.

When I completed my order last night, the free personalization was there but today the confirmation that showed up included the 6.50 charge. I called and apparently they can't check my order because it isn't in their system until 24 hours after the order was complete. So, I have to wait until 6pm to call and contest this but I am going to be PO'd if they did a "bait and switch" with the pricing.

I placed 3 separate orders yesterday for a total of 9 towels and was charged correctly for all of them, so hopefully the charge for the personalization was just a fluke on yours.

When I've had minor issues with PBK in the past, even when it was my fault (ordered wrong color stain on toddler bedrails) they've been really great about correcting it for me promptly and even waived return shipping when the error was my fault.

Talked to a helpful lady (finally). She said that if it doesn't cancel before it ships, then she will give me the price adjustment for $6.99 (mini-towel). Whew...so relieved!!! :)

That's so strange. You think they'd know what their products were going for. Glad you got your $$ back. I ended up placing 3 separate orders and all were correct. When I was in the process of ordering, if I didn't click on the SD link and just typed in a search for the towel, it would come back with the regular price. The site seemed like it was constantly trying to go back to the higher price.

So annoyed--I ordered these last week (4 of them, for gifts) and at first when I ordered, it said they were available. Then I got an email saying they were backordered until after Christmas, and today, I got another email saying that they would not be sending me my order at all. I am debating whether to call customer service.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Exact same thing just happened to me. 2 out of 5 that were previously back ordered are now just out of stock. :-( I'm sure I'll have an email tomorrow telling me the other 3 are out of stock too. 2 flowers and 3 fish.

Hmmmm, I placed two orders and they have not been canceled but they haven't shipped yet either (in process). I knew that one item (blue fish wrap) is backordered until JUNE which is actually fine with me, but I wasn't told that the others were backordered at all. I ordered pink fish, blue fish, pink fish wraps, mermaid, and the flower/dots (which sound the most endangered). I'd much prefer to wait then have he orders canceled. Was ordering ahead for spring/summer birthday gifts anyway.

I received a 2 messages from them within minutes of each other - first one saying that my flower towel shipped (sorry other posters who didn't get theirs) and the second saying that my shark towel is no longer available. Now I have to scramble to find a suitable gift for THE OTHER TWIN who was supposed to get a matching towel to his sister! ARGH! :hopmad:

I did 3 separate orders that day since I kept thinking of additional people I should order for.
The first one I did very early in the day was for 6 towels and it now shows as in process.
The second one I did mid-day for 2 towels and it's already shipped.
The last one I did late in the day for 1 towel and that's the one that got cancelled.

I'm going to be very, very bummed if my 6-towel order gets cancelled since that's for all my nieces and nephews and I'll need to come up with substitute presents.

I really only wanted the towels if I had one for each of them, so I just called to cancel the other 2 towels in my order. The lady was not very nice at all, and she said she'd try to cancel them, but there was no guarantee. I asked if I'd get an email confirmation if they get canceled, and she said No, I'd have to call back again tomorrow and ask. Very strange. She said the towels went VERY fast that day.

I notified my sister of the shark towel since she was going to get a personalized beach towel for DS for Xmas. She sat on it and didn't order until late Monday, so I think her's will be cancelled. I'll be very bummed, b/c DS adores sharks (he was one for halloween), and I would've ordered it myself when it first came up.

I am going to call and tell them this, not that they'll care. Very disappointed.

I am wondering if they are combing through the orders and fulfilling the full price ones and cancelling those that used the 68 "trick".

I have no idea if this is their assumption, but by the sounds of the email they're sending out, it doesn't seem like they really care if they're alienating people. If you're a really good customer there, I would totally call them on it. I agree, not sure if they'll care, but it is really bad CS on their part.

Just spoke to PBK--they were really unhelpful, did not apologize and were quite terse on the phone, even though I was extra polite. Apparently they've gotten lots of calls about the towels today. I was told that when you order an item on backorder, despite a specific availability date being assigned to it, that they have no way of knowing if/when the item will actually be available. That sounds ridiculous to me.

I also asked (very politely) if I could return the towel that was shipped to me, since the matching towels for the child's siblings had been canceled. I had to speak to a supervisor for them to grant me that concession, and they acted as though they were doing me an enormous favor by allowing an "exception" to be made (I had it personalized). And I have to pay return shipping, so I'll probably just keep it.

I think I am done with PBK! I am fairly low-maintenance, but this is really annoying me--it should not have taken them a week to let us know that the orders were being cancelled straightaway.

I wouldn't give up until you get a cancelation notice. My guess is they are canceling the later orders. That's what any reputable business would do.

I placed my order around 2:30pm, November 30th. The lady was very nice and told me if you haven't received any cancellation email, it's probably that your order will be fine.

I ordered three. The mermaid, the flower dot, and the blue fish. I got an email today that says the mermaid shipped. The flower dot was cancelled, and the blue fish is "in process". I called to cancel the blue fish, and the woman said it had already been filled on Dec. 4th, and I will probably get it tomorrow.

So, I'd say there's a chance that some are still being filled. If anyone had a cancelled blue fish personalized with "Justin", I really don't need mine and would be willing to mail it to someone who does need it to complete their set.

That's what's so strange. I just checked my order confirmation email, and I ordered at 12:30 on 11/30-my flower dots were canceled (as well as several sharks), but my mermaid was shipped. My sister, who also ordered a few hours after I did, did not have her order canceled, though it included a flower dot. It makes no sense!

Received my fish, mermaid, and flower dot towels today. No issues with my order. I had ordered a couple shark towels too which were previously cancelled via email. I'm one of the lucky ones.

Hoping to hear a few other positive endings on this one soon.

The ones shipped to my address arrived today -- they look perfect, no issues. The other towel I ordered as a gift shipped yesterday. I guess I got lucky, and I'm sorry that not everyone received theirs. But TY again, OP!

I too am sorry that not everyone will be receiving their towels....I really hope this is a one time issue with PBK.

FWIW, I received an email that my towels shipped today. Ordered butterfly, dots, and blue fish...all personalized.

Mine arrived today too. Sure seems like even though some were cancelled, most were ok as I'm seeing a ton of people have gotten deliveries! This is good news!

Those who are receiving shipping confirmations & actually getting their orders in the mail, when did you order? I ordered on Nov 30 and haven't received a cancellation email, but my order still says "in progress" on the website. Should I be worried?

I ordered on the 30th. I got one of my orders today - 3 fish and 1 dots.

My other orders were placed through the day, from about 4 pm until 11 pm. They're all on their way, some fish, dots and mermaids. I didn't order any sharks.

Got my 2 wraps today (1 pink fish and 1 blue fish). I placed the order around 2 pm on black Monday.

It's quite noticable that the personalized letters on the wraps are in different font size and style even though I ordered the exact same style. Oh,well. I can live with that.

This got me nervous so I checked on mine. I ordered three personalized mermaid towels. UPS says it's shipped but of course there's been some "mechanical error" so it's delayed, but it's been sent so that's good. YEAH!

I just got shipping confirmation on the blue fish wrap that was supposedly on back order until June '10. If I had to guess I'd bet that when people were notified of the lengthy back order they canceled their order (PBK sent an email giving that option due to the long delay). Then they got more in and suddenly there was no need to wait 6 mos.-yippie!

I received my wraps. I love them but I wish the embroidery stood out more. Was the only choice of color white or could I have chosen something else? I can't recall.

There were different thread color options. I initially had my embroidery be the white thread, but changed it after I realized I could do other colors.

My second order came yesterday! These will make such cute gifts:)

on the wraps I'm pretty certain you could only do white. I remember wanting another color but there were no choices.

This is correct...I wanted to do pink but couldn't. I too was a little let down that it is a bit hard to see. Oh well! Still cute!

The 2 towels I received are really cute. I still haven't received credit back yet for the 3 that were cancelled. I used a gift card and instead of simply crediting it back to the same card number, PBK issued me a new card which was supposedly mailed, but I haven't received it yet. There were a few other deals I was interested in but held off, because I want to use the gift card. Disappointing all around!

My flower dot and shark were cancelled, then yesterday I noticed that the flower dot was back on the site (at full price). I called to ask why my order was cancelled if they clearly had the towels. She was very nice, said they only had ~30 and weren't getting any more. She reoredered the towel for me and is giving me a credit for the price difference and the monogramming cost. So if you had a flower dot cancelled it might be worth calling.

Just called to try this--I spoke to 2 different people who were absolutely NOT willing to honor the sale price for the 2 flower dots I ordered. Very disappointing.

Even better--when she asked me for the item number (I used the 68 "trick" for the $9.99 price, as I'm sure everyone else did), I was chastised for "forcing" the item to be on sale, and essentially told that I was trying to trick the system and therefore wouldn't be given the sale price. This entire situation has rubbed me the wrong way.

no luck from calling in from me, either....was told it was $19.99 or $22 depending on the size, and that was the price. Wouldn't have been that pi$$ed except that they're in stock now AND now they're not honoring.

My monogramming was on the wrong end of the towel and upside down. They are sending UPS for mine too. So silly!! And irritating, I was wanting to take it on a vacation tomorrow.

I got Beach towels on clearance at Kohls that are much nicer (larger, thicker) for around $3-$4 each, although they are not monogrammed.

Unrelated, but my thanksgiving countdown calendar came with a broken rod. And was apparently the last one left in the country post-sale. I had to talk to a cust service person and a supervisor to get significant money taken off the price - - they first said $8 which was way low I thought and I finally got it up to $18.

I am thinking about cutting up the old pbk credit card . . . too much hassle on recent orders.

I agree. I got the ones I ordered for gifts and found the fabric to be quite thin for PBK. The printing on the shark towel is kind of fuzzy. At least they got the monogramming right. It's awful that some people have gotten incorrect monogramming. My sister ordered too late for my kids, so they will not be getting any. I do think the designs are cute, but the quality is so-so.

I was lucky enough to get the towels without problem...but IMO Holztiger animals will get a lot more use. My 3 year old has a few and spends easily an hour a day playing with them, those little animals are dearly cherished by him.

I'd say there is close to an inch difference in how far the monogramming is from the beginning of the name to the end of the name, with one end resting on the stitching at the end of the towel. I'm surprised at how little quality control PBK has. I guess I'll be on the phone with them on Monday. Have they seriously sent return postage for the towels that had problems?

I had 2 incorrrect monogrammed towels and they wanted me to send them back. I delayed, because I didn't have a box...they sent them in a bag. Then they sent me a survey and after filling that out they called me and said to keep the towels. One of the towels was out of stock till Feb, so I asked them to refund my $ and the other came yesterday...the 24th. I agree...the quality is not what I would expect from Pottery Barn, and would have really been disappointed had I sent more that $10 on it.

Just a FYI...once I filled out the negative survey, they were on top of it and called and e-mailed me several times to make it right. The initial CS rep I talked to when I called to tell them the monogramming was incorrect didn't do squat for me though.
