omg, seriously. That is so heartwarming to hear, especially after all the horror stories we hear about the ugliness in this world.

Oh, wow. How absolutely wonderful that people could support this baby and family after such a tragedy. But, gosh, how bittersweet.

It really does take a village to raise this child. That was so heartwarming. It reminds me that even though I hear about the atrocitiy in the world, this one story reminds me that there is still hope. Thank you I needed this story today.

What a sweet, sweet story. Not only the sharing of mommy's milk, but all the other benefits (relationships) that came along with it.

That story made me feel funny: touching that so many people were willing to give and, as Lori said, the larger relationships that then grew out of it. But would I want that in my own family if it was me who had died or if I was the surviving husband who could decide how to feed the baby? I suppose I would want it at first, because it would keep at least the feeding of baby what I always wanted and imagined even when everything else is radically different. And once started and working, I would probably say, why fix what ain't broke. But I might also say this is a situation ideal for formula.

As an aside, a similar situation happened to my cousin and his wife, but with an older baby. My cousin's wife was in her 30's, hale and hearty, when she collapsed and died of an aneurysym while teaching Sunday school. Her nursing daughter was a few months old, and a volunteer at their church stepped in and kept nursing her; I'm not sure for how long.

But I might also say this is a situation ideal for formula.

I agree that the DH's efforts were truly amazing, the extent to which he honored his wife's wishes. But I wonder if there was a missed opportunity for bonding with Daddy while formula feeding.

ETA: Sorry...I was under the impression that the baby was nursed round the clock. Fabulous that they were able to get breastmilk donated.

Wow, just wow. Amazing for what the mom's offered, but also the relationships for the baby and the father that, no doubt, will be ongoing.

Sure it's ideal for formula, but it's the generosity of these mothers and the strength of this father that is so heartwarming. As for bonding with daddy. This child has ONLY daddy to bond with and was fed expressed milk at night. I think he didn't miss the chance to feed his child.

I will say that I thought it was interesting from a health standpoint. To be nursed by different women. Were they screened. The immunity issues. It's an interesting situation.
