just got DD's bed...HELP

okay so i got my dd's first big girl bed. it is a white bed with a trundle under it. I love the bed itself however, with the box spring it is SUPER high and i was told i can just use the mattress on these boards they brought, but when I do that the mattress sits too low and it's really REALLY hard to make the bed. Anyone have an experience with platform/captain/trundle beds where the mattress sits down low? I could use any bed making tips you have!

I use a fitted sheet and a comforter with a comforter cover. That's it, no blankets, no flat sheets. So it's a pain to make DS' bed when I wash the sheets but the rest of the week I just shake out the comforter and fling it back on the bed and it's more or less made. (This is what I do for all our beds though, 'cause I'm lazy and 'cause DH and I fight waaaayyy less over the covers this way.)
