recently purchsed a ceramic xmas tree on ebay. a foot or so tall. weighs no more than 10pounds. i received the shipping confirmation and a ups tracking number. it says on the ups tracking page that the item weighs 35 pounds, no way this is true.

i agreed on the shipping when i bid, but that doesn't seem accurate.

does ups charge by size or weight? most of these trees run about $18 to ship. i'm puzzled. tia

I can't speak for UPS, however most shipping companies charge based on the higher of actual weight or calculated dimensional weight. A ft high doesn't seem that big, but I bet the width is probably at least 8". You also need to figure in packing materials and the box.

The best way honestly is to just input the size of the BOX and est weight into a rate checker and see how much it says.

Ceramic? That's very breakable. needs extra packing to get it to you in one piece. Maybe it messed up the dimensions of the box to make it bigger than the weight would suggest?
