Since the doll has special meaning to you and your daughter, I would be more apt to fix the doll you already have. I remember seeing on a blog (maybe the Artful Parent) the person replacing the cover for the doll's body, so if you are crafty you could do it yourself. Otherwise, you could send her to a doll hospital and they should be able to replace the body cover for you. I believe that is a pretty common fix.

DD (5) has a much loved Corolle Calin doll that has fallen apart, unfortunately. I have performed surgery on it numerous times, but the fabric on the body has finally become so threadbare there is nothing left to sew (it has a vinyl head and limbs attached to a cloth beanie body and the the limbs are falling off the body). She has a few other dolls but has played with them very little. Anyone have experience with this? Should I just get her a new Calin? I think if every other toy went away, she would be okay, but would be heartbroken if she lost this one. This particular doll has special meaning as well, since it was given to her four years ago by my mother, who died last winter, and they have been inseparable since.
Since she has special meaning, I would have definitely her fixed.

Can you call Corolle to see about repairs? http://www.corolle.com/ There is a contact page under the site map link.

Other options would be to swap the body out...

Or send it to a doll hospital. There are many around online, and possibly irl if you live in a metropolitan area.
Or to sew patches onto her body basically restructuring her with either muslin or flannel.

That is great!!! I think this would be very doable and a nice knit would be soft and durable.
